I’m a pretty shit gamer (xbox). I play for about 20 mins and then I get bored. That said, I quite enjoy the multiplayer on Modern Warfare.

Was about to buy the new one yesterday and asked the guy in Game whether BF3 was any better. He said BF3 was epic. I like epic, so I bought it 🙂

Holy moses. It’s pretty intense eh?! I know it’s only a game, but I find myself getting really into it. It’s properly slick and feels so much more realistic than COD.

I’m impressed. It’s quite tricky though, but I like that.

I’ve got it on a 12ft screen with 850w of iranian terrorists throwing grenades and shouting at me, even just hearing your footsteps as you run through the streets is pretty awesome.

Anyone else got it? Like it/hate it?

TACTICAL EDIT: I am so going to buy this game next week.

Probably the best ever FPS and makes COD look like a game of Pong. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t have a clue, is 13 or works in the COD marketing department.

Takes a while to get the right mindset and tactics to play well but worth the effort. Especially when you start unlocking some of the later perks and equipment.

If I wasn’t already single I would be now!

    Got BF3 and CoD:MW3 over here…

Don’t like multiplayer online really, so only do the campaigns..

Noticeable difference in graphical quality between the two.

Totaly awesome game , Have spent 28 hours on it since its been released and i am not an online gamer . it even had me taking time off the bike as i wanted to play ! far superior to COD as you have to think tacticaly rather than just run and gun. I am on PS3 if annnyones fancys some co -op or match up makkag78

    But what about gameplay?

Anyone here still think CoD is the better game?

As I am thinking about getting one or the other (won’t have tome to play them both) which is the best for campaign gaming? (I used to go online and clocked up some embarrassingly long sessions and total hours played on the original Modern Warfare but I don’t have the time to get into it now so prefer shorter campaign gaming).

Epic game. Have only played multiplayer as it’s the main attraction IMO. Was a big Bad Company 2 fan and at first it took a while to get into BF3, but now I know the maps a bit more it’s incredible.
Rolling into the Caspian Border map in a line of vehicles is brilliant, as is badly flying jets, aiming them at building, and then ejecting before impact. The new class system makes a lot of sense too.

Such a good game. Writing this comment makes me sad that I’m not at home playing it.

mastiles_fanylion – if you’re only playing campaign I’ve heard MW3 is better. That said, last year I made the move from Black Ops to Battlefield and the online multiplayer is leagues ahead, if you like bigger battles, more strategic play and not dying every five seconds. Play it properly and you feel part of a team. One minute you’re shooting people, the next your flying a chopper, and then you might be rescuing team mates with medipacks and a defibrillator. You can spend a whole battle simply spotting enemies with a long scope, earning points as they move in for the kill.

but I tend to like brain dead simplicity over strategies/tactics and absolutely hate team based FPS games

rossrobot – that sounds interesting. I did clock up something like 7 full days (ie 168 hours at 10 minutes a game – or as long as I lasted in some games) actually *gametime* – I would hate to get that addicted again 🙂

Was a big fan of bad company 2 and didn’t like battlefield 3 at first, but now getting into it. I go on for a quick game before bed at 10pm and next thing i know its 2am. Still havent started with the single player campaign, the multiplayer is just too good. Even though i’m shit at it 😀

They have however IMO made a bit of a mistake in the unlocks – those starting out in the game are at a real disadvantage compared to those who have ranked up a bit particularly in the planes – It is impossible to win a dog fight with someone who has all the options available when you only have the gun….those that spend time flying are going to be better pilots anyway but it is so unbalanced towards them due to this and the learning curve isn’t very forgiving.

I’ve just bought a PS3 having been out of the gaming loop from since I was, well, about 10. I am now 35. Battlefield 3 is ace though! Love it. I haven’t much to compare to, but it is very involving.

Planes I don’t really bother with, but I agree i is difficult to begin with, I was stuggling with it until I discovered the suppression specialisation, makes all the difference imo. I don’t think you get it til level 17. But I suppose I helps your overall skill level to be disadvantaged to begin with.

still gutted mind you that apparently I need about 150,000 points in assault to get my AN94 back! 🙁 overall fantastic game though, big improvement over BC2.

For those playing single player, bite the bullet, switch to multiplayer and get killed a billion times, it’ll be worth it in the end, far far better.

You get team death match in BF3 also, smaller maps too, so all the brain dead simplicity you could ever want! 😀 Rush is far better mind.

I have BF3 on the PC and MW3 on the PS3. I spend most of the time online on MW3 as most of my friends are.

I get more engrossed in BF3 than MW3, but I put that down to the natural PC controls. I find I’ll play BF3 for about an hour, but MW3 online I spend way too much time online.

I’m assuming you saw the Gadget Show/Andy McNab thing where they made a force feedback version of BF3 on a 360 gamer zone…

I love the online playing – can’t be bothered with campaigns. The PS3 to me is an online gaming experience. As for the MW3 / BF3 debate – I’ve played both, am crap at both and thus far prefer MW3 where carnage is the name of the game! Fivespot McSlim on the PS3 if you fancy an easy kill…

It’s hardly like there is interaction between team mates in team death match. My comment stands.

Mind you not that I care which game you play, fill yer boots it’s 6 and half to me, was just trying to be helpful..

    er.. No it **** doesn’t!
by definition, in Team Death match you’re not meant to shoot half the other players, that alone is far too tactical for me. I CBA trying to work out which team a random stranger is on before I pull the trigger! my point was I just wanna shoot everyone/thing without having to think.
believe me, BF is really not a game for me.
but thanks for your help 😕

I finished the single player MW3 campaign after 8 hours play and tbh was a bit disappointed. Good story with a few nice twists, but could have done with being 50% longer when you’ve paid £40 for it! But then I guess that’s where the multiplayer comes in.

I’ve never played any of the Battlefield games but I can hear BF3 calling out to me …

Can’t say either has much value if you only want to play them single player. Multiplayer they are two very different games (I have both on the PC). It’s been a why since I played a BF series game and enjoyed the previous two CoD games but for me BF3 just blows MW3 away MP. If you want crazy fast games where it all comes down to reaction time then go for MW3, if you want a bit slower paced games requiring you to think a bit more and where it takes a bit more skill then BF3 is the right way to go. Mind you I’ve not played either in days and even bored of Skyrim now at lvl 14 so what do I know? :p

Can’t understand why people pay £40+ for these games only to play the 6 hour long campaign mode.

BF3 multiplayer has been excellent so far, shame I’m having to play this on Xbox. It’s a long and painful transition learning to use a joypad after years of keyboard and mouse, I’d much rather have a PC capable of handling it.

PC games I ‘acquire’, xbox games I buy (although never new – far too expensive).

you lot seems to know your onions… wife wants to get me a game for xmas but cant decide.

the one selling point of BF3 for me is the online co-op with your mates, am i correct in saying i can get 3 mates to join me in a game, each is assigned a role, medic, sniper, engineer etc then we can all play on the same map and play as a team against the computer OR ‘other peeps’?

i probably havent explained that very well!!

edit- just read a bit more of the above…. what i mean is i dont just want to play team death match but is there a mode where me and 3 mates for example have to go and blow up a building while securing a bridge then make it back to an RV etc? im sure you could do this in BF2?

The big advantage over COD for me is COD is filled with petulant 15 – 30 year old american kids who quit games when ever they lose, or sit there in the lobby making stupid sounds over the mic, or have arguments with their moms (sic) about eating their dinner, etc ad nauseum.

True, but I play the team objective games where you need to speak to people! It’s always good when you get a random squad and play for a few hours with them.

I like MW3 for a quick ‘run & gun’ blast at the end of the day, but prefer BF3 for a more involved, tactical few hours.

I think I’ve had 3 nights on CoD so far since it’s release and despite most of my mates having it I can’t help but find myself hating it.

I got into BF BC2 late and loved it after playing most of the CoD’s up to that point. Think I’m going to trade CoD in next week and get BF3

Right, it’s Saturday night; the wife’s gone out on her xmas do; the boy has finally succumbed to sleep and I’m bored.

Who’s in? (and wants a bullet magnet on their team)
