I saw my dentist this afternoon for over half an hour, without an appointment, due to a misbehaving nerve.
She is a young Iraqi who qualified at Baghdad University and is quite honestly one the nicest person I know.
She has wonderfully relaxed professional boundaries. Today I turned up on my bike so despite wearing normal clothes I was wearing my cleated road shoes and helmet.
When she saw that she proceeded to tell me how she couldn’t really ride a bike that when she went to Center Parc on one family occasion everyone hired bikes except her who hired an adult tricycle.
She thought it was hilariously funny because she reckoned that she looked like an old woman, and kept slapping me on the shoulder as she laughed and I sat on the dentist chair.
She told me after the treatment to phone up the surgery tomorrow and although it was the weekend to leave a message saying how I was doing and she would at some point pick it up. Which is more care than I would expect.
