Got a new PC and get on the internet. there is a wireless connection but it doesn't look like the aol disc is installing properly – or are there some settings on the computer that I need to alter? Thanks for any help.

aol-therein lies your problem.

You shouldn't need the AOL disk. Turn on the wireless, search for wireless networks, connect to you router (should need a password) and start surfing.

The install discs are fundementally nonsense, you really, really want to avoid it.

Assuming you're connecting through a router (rather than a modem plugging into a USB port), you need to check that a) the router is connecting to the Internet (there will be a status light – read the manual) and that b) your computer is connecting to the router (wireless in your case it seems, but if you're having problems then it's easier to get it all set up on a wired connection first, then worrying about moving to wireless afterwards once that's all working).

who is you internet provider?
What operating system are you using?
what is the AOL disc for (there should be no need to install any software for wireless connectivity)?

remove all traces of AOL if possible
search for available connections and connect to the router, enter in he WEP/WAP key number if you have this.

As above Will, 'install' discs usually contain nothing more than annoying useless 'help' software and start installing additional toolbars in IE etc.
