Racism is believing a particular race has intrinsic properties.

No it isn’t. Am I racist for believing that some races have darker skins?

Yup, and we are united by our common tribal ancestry which has left us all with a desire to belong to a group, to have an affinity for those like us, and to distrust those who aren’t like us.

How much we are able to, or choose to use our intelligence to filter our genetic predispositions in deciding who’s “like us” and who’s “not like us” is a very interesting subject. – off to try and find some interesting articles.

The Human Zoo by Desmond Morris explains this quite well. Haven’t read it since my late teens, though, so I may be wrong.

Aha … why do you think skin colour is a crucial topic to discuss? In what context did you use it i.e. ” … some races have darker skins”? 😈

Black people generally are poor swimmers. Oriental people are often quite bright, particularly in subjects like maths. And have you ever seen white people try to dance?

Races are different just as men and women are different, as are old and young, straight and gay and many other contrasts. The world would be a lot duller if we were all the same.

By the quoted criterion I’m a racist and happy to admit it.

I once rear ended a car driven by an Asian man. He got out, looked, shrugged and ‘said no damaged’ hopped in and drove off. Never heard squat.

Plus some Muslims believe in Islam as a peaceful and good religion.

Whereas middle-England class-riddled Jones-obsessed faux better heritage types **** me right off. Narrow-minded twits

    Best edited, I think…

When I moved to London I worked with black people for the first time.
I was surprised to learn that the lighter skinned ones looked down on the others. There were even skin lightening creams advertised on the radio. The lighter skinned one (mike) didn’t get on with the darker one (Doug) and often called him monkey man.
My next surprise was on taking a cab ride with Doug. We were having a laugh with the driver but when Doug found out that he was African all conversation ended.
It seems that the Africans sold the Carribeans into slavery and they still hold a grudge.
Racism is alive in every society.
I’m sure in olden times the people of one village hated the ones in the next.

    No, nursey type stuff…

Every one has prejudices, conciously or not.

I was asked a strange question by one of my younger kids about whether racism extended to people with ginger hair, or people with different coloured eyes from her.

I told her that i would still love her even if she was a red head 😉

Love her maybe, but not take her out in public!

    🙂

I’m guessing she’s not actually a red head then.

I don’t dislike people of a certain culture, I just dislike their religious beliefs.

Apparently those Welsh folk still hate anyone from another valley.
