Has anyone ever had a cracked Alu frame repaired? I'm pretty sure the answer is don't bother but thought it may be worth asking.

All depends on what alloy it is. Certain alloys need heat treating after they have been welded.
You need to make sure you get a reputable tig welder as well;-)

Although, if its wrecked and you are going to chuck it, may as well have a go and see how long it lasts..
