Have they noticed a matching uptake in sales in Berwick-on-Tweed Asda?

The supermarkets in Berwick are doing very nicely from this, given the main city is only an hour away.

Anyway in what way is MUP a success? Early days but alcohol deaths up. Despite the claims of the study in the BMJ which studied 5000 households (and presumably relied on self reporting) actual alcohol off sales are up.

The effect as could have been expected was a big drop in cider sales which for no good reason is pays duty at a far lower rate. The big drop in cider (and small drops in wine and perry)was more than made up by a big increase in spirits and lager sales. All based on better data than a small sample of households.
