Hi I’m a bit stuck and was wondering if I could get a moment of your time. I’m looking to get a new mountain bike for around the £600-700 mark but all the spec is a bit foreign to me! I ride to work everyday for the last 10 years and also go out in the forest and on the seafront on days off but nothing very extreme. I had a GT til it got stolen last year and loved it. Can you advise on these few please or do you know any better and if I am better off buying an older model or this years? thanks for your help

Links don’t seem to work for me. Presumably you’re wanting a hardtail so you’ll ‘arguably’ need to decide on wheel size ie 26″, 650B or 29″.

26″ would do. Do you have any recommendations for around the £600 mark?

    thanks for your time

The Classifieds here is a good place to start. What height are you?

OK just been looking for you and haven’t seen anything in your size and price range. Folk tend to split bikes to sell. However, it’s definitely worth checking daily as Classifieds moves very fast.

Edit: you could put up a ‘Wanted’ ad.

If you are 6 foot tall then maybe a larger wheel bike would be good for you.

Not necessarily 29″, but maybe 650b.

In that price range Cube have some decent hardtails, l have seen the 2013 Cube LTD on offer online for £640 (down from £850). I had one of these and it’s a great bike for that money.

Most of their 2014 bikes are 29″.

I was looking at that cube bike. I might go for that. Do you think a cube would be better then a GT or cannondale for the same price?

Cube tend to be well specced for the money, particularly if you can get a NOS for a lower price.

But GT and Cannondale are not bad bikes. Any of these will be worth keeping/upgrading as you wear parts out.
