    I am thinking about building up another bike but in order to keep costs and nagging about uneccesary expendature down I was going to reuse some 8 speed stuff I have lying around. The one thing I don’t have is a spare crankset and I was wondering if you can use a 9 speed compatible crankset (can’t find any 8 speed ones) with 8 speed kit as there is presumably a difference in chain width.

    Any help would be much appreciated.
