  • 500 albums on CD – what's the best way to sell them?

I guess they’re probably worth about a grand, but I know I’m not going to get that for them in this climate, plus I can’t be doing with the faff of selling them individually on ebay. Is Music Magpie a fair trade-off in terms of minimum faff? I’ve got a list of titles if anyone’s interested. They range from classic rock to indie and a bit of 90s dance thrown in.

Try listing them on Amazon, I think it’s easier than ebay for things like CDs. All the artwork and descriptions are already there for you. Postage costs are set, I’d guess you’d make most of your money there rather than by the selling price.

Still quite a faff for 500 – you could always take them down to a proper record shop and see if they’ll buy a job lot. They won’t pay much for them though.

i wouldnt mind seeing a list if youd sell any separately.

If you listed them on here you may get rid of a few

The problem is with how cheap older CDS are brand new, I am always picking up old classics for £3 or so from Amazon.

As mentioned tho, list them in the classifieds and I reckon you would shift 30%+. Do like 4 for £8-10 inc del as a ball park.

I would love to see what is in the list. Either on here or my email is in my profile

Just like splitting a bike gets you more money than selling it whole – I think the same would apply here.

If you can be bothered sell and list all individually.

The ones that don’t sell after some time period (more patience required 😆 ), bundle those and flog ’em in one go 🙂

    Ebay for the adverts.

What you’ll probably find though is most second hand record shops get offered more CDs than they sell, as like you, most people are looking of off-load whole collections. They’ll probably offer you credit rather than cash for them, which you can only use to buy errrr…more CDs (or rather, fewer CDs)

I’ve just sold a couple of hundred to Music Magpie. Yes, I only got about 100 quid for them, but in terms of no hassle it’s the only way. Listed them all on their site, got a price, they sent out a courier for free, got a cheque a couple of weeks later.

Probably could have got a bit more money on EBay or Amazon, but the time required to list and process them is worth more to me than the money I’d get.

Another option is CEX but their prices for CDs aren’t as good was Music Magpie. Good for DVDs though.

Post a list and charge for P&P – I’d probably take a few! Then to music magpie or similar.

maybe worth building a list, depending on your music taste I might want a few.mip

It depends how specialised your tastes were/are but if you have a few rare ones then GEMM is really good. It’s also worth having a look at it to guesstimate market values. Not all CDs go for peanuts, rarer ones go for hundreds.

Can I ask why are you selling? Have you transfered the music to mp3 or are these just CDs you don’t want anymore?

Why are you selling? I cannot ever imagine ever wanting to sell this number of records/cds… Surely you are going to miss some of them??

A friend of mine did this a few years ago and I’m sure she said that she bought a bar code scanner and then used that to input the data into ebay which had the ability to recognise the bar code and then create a listing automatically, including tracks info and art work.

I know that sounds a bit farfetched so I’ll ask her to clarify it.

The laborious part is organising postage.

Oh and can you PM me a list. I’d be happy to take a bunch off of you possibly. Email is in profile.

You dont need a bar code scanner for e bay you just type in the EAN number and e bay automatically give you art work and track listing etc. I would probably sell them on e bay with fairly low buy it now prices and put them on in lots of 70-100. This is time consuming but will probably give you the greatest returns.

Did you know you can get loads of scan and catalogue apps for android and iphone now. Music Collection and Inventory is handy and free, allows bulk scanning of the barcodes and it goes off t’internet to find the data. There may be better ones, but I’m new to the Android thing.

Ebay has a problem at the moment, that currently you must offer free P&P on CDs. This will change on 8th Feb to a maximum of £1 P&P on CDs. So currently, you can end up making so little on the sale through Ebay after paying Ebay and Paypal fees, and packaging, that it’s simply not worth it for most CDs. It’s quite likely you’ll even make a loss. Obviously this doesn’t apply to rare and old stuff, but your average Kylie album will lose you money.

Thanks guys, to be honest I think I’ll stick them all on Music Magpie. If I get enough to buy a pair of new wheels for my singlespeed, I’m happy. All the music is now on my ipod and backed up on a portable hard drive. Might even buy another hard drive as a second backup.

You do realize that what you are doing is illegal don’t you. Ripping the CDs and then selling them on, even giving them away. 😆

If you change your mind and sell them on here, a list would be appreciated. E-mail in profile.

    Thank you. 🙂

Ripping them in any circumstance is illegal, isn’t it (in the UK) ?
