If it;s a Garmin HR monitor, fresh battery inserted upside down for 10 seconds does a reset, I believe. Mine died and was never revived. I've had flawless performance from a Wahoo TICKR and a Powercal though, the latter through many battery cycles. I bought the TICKR because I wanted Bluetooth for iOS Zwift.
Yeah its finding a session at my target w/kg is the issues. For instance, tomorrow is 1h:10 interval at 3.2w/kg which is akin to Z2 in the boredom stakes albeit a tad harder,. For me its that kind of session it’d be good to ride around with others.
<div></div>
<div>Those are group rides - there are actual workout sessions which are more like 3x20 intervals or whatever, but they force everyone to be at the same speed, as in it's actually a system implemented thing that no matter how hard your avatar rides you will not go faster. Like this. The group rides advertise a certain speed, but you can bugger off up the road if you want.</div>
Ah got it, thanks.
Scaled - i have a garmin hr chest Strap that you are more than welcome to have. As far as i know it works but hasnt been used for a couple of years so if you are willing to take a punt on the just the cost of postage (i would guess a few quid) then you can have it. I have no way of testing it as i dont have anything ant+ so no promises, just pm if you want it.
My HRM completely failed to register last night, changed battery and still nothing. Anyone had any luck reviving a dead one?
I'd check the connections between the strap and the monitor, make sure they're not corroded etc. Sometimes the connections within the strap fail, might be worth trying a new strap, though it's a bit of a punt. Cheaper than a full replacement HRM and, if you have to replace it, you could use it as a spare, if you go for the same model anyway.
Gonna have a go at the 8pm KISS TT
Been a while since I did an evening 10...
Never done a Virtual TT
Anybody?
🙁 my lambs are coming thick and fast since yesterday. Feels like I will not get another chance to ride again for a few weeks. Was about to get on tonight and got called out to another tricky birth! Supposed to have RL race on Sunday but doubt I will be able to free up the time to do it now. Will see if I can get on for a few minutes later on tonight
You raced earlier????
Tiger, Be warned the Time Trial starts from the second you leave the pen. Make sure you get the right bike. Just head down, arse up, and ride at threshold. If your power plot shows green you aren't going hard enough 🙂
You raced earlier????
Yeah I know but I'm so far behind on STW chub club that we are on silly extremes, also had fewer than 500cals today. Need to lose the chub!!!

You're not bloody kidding!! That was mentally hard, especially as my 1st 'B' cat race. Proper hard work.
But triple yay!!! 2nd FTP increase of the day to 313W
(managed 325w for 1st 25mins but legs were heavy and under fed from earlier and died 🙁 )
I will rest and eat on Friday after my weigh in.....
and quadruple Yay!! Got 3rd 🙂

Also saw nathb kicking round
good work, tiger
I like the TTs - particularly so when I just started on zwift as I was shit at drafting and the TT takes that aspect away. I think they're probably a good way of getting a real-world FTP since you still get the effect of the hills.
No Zwifting today... Temperature wasn't bad... So we're back into outdoor mode 🙂
Sometimes a cycle ride brings more questions than answers. Todays ride had plenty of them.
How are my new waterproof Decathlon boots...? the answer is.. really good actually 🙂 impressed lots.
Why do i ride anything other than my T-130 outdoors ? I don't really know why.. I know i've asked myself that question before actually. I still don't have the answer. It's exceptional.
Why didn't i turn round and get the 5mm allen key and adjust seat higher ? Not sure... i'm a lazy sod 🙂
Did i really set them bars straight/centered ? No... Not even close 🙂 hahhahaa Ooops.
Muddy but really nice to be outside again.

I've checked and can't find the 'outside' option in Zwift.
I quite enjoyed the TT I did, I actually turned off the automatic resistance and just treated it as an FTP test, IIRC it was quite a flat power curve.
I see the Alpe du Zwift is actually a thing. It looks massive. "coming soon"

I do! Your bottom bracket was fubar 😀
(short memory)
LOL i know that... but generally i mean. I often use the Parkwood because the Whyte is my Sunday Best kind of thing, but realistically, apart from a few bearings, there's nothing else on the Whyte that could or should go wrong that wouldn't go wrong on the Parkwood. Added to that it's a lot 'nicer' in comfort, position and overall riding, i just sit and question my sanity as to why i don't ride the Whyte more.
Honestly i am not bragging but i managed another GOLD today. I had no intention of going anywhere near a bike today after yesterdays double montain climb. I then got an email from MGCC race organiser saying he was bringing back the ride and race format this morning, so i got suckered in to doing it. It is 3 laps of watopia flat but the first lap is warm up pace whereby you have to stay behind group leader and then as you start 2nd lap he says go (anyone in front of him is dq’d) and all hell breaks loose. It was a top notch field and i dropped quite a few sustained watt bombs hanging on to the front runners. I was hitting 400-500w on a far too regular basis but i held on right to the final 0.4m. I had no sprint in me so coasted over the line but i was only 12secs behind the overall winner. I won B group by over 20 seconds!
I promise everyone here i will NOT be on the bike tomorrow.
LOL brag all you like mate 🙂 nothing wrong with telling us you had a good performance 🙂
Well after yesterdays madness in the lambing shed just as I was about to get on the turbo I managed to squeeze a ride in this evening. And what a ride. I can barely move now 🙂 I opted for a race taking in the Jungle as I find it a rather comfortable lap. So 30 km in total and about 380m of climbing. Got a good start and was up with a a few of the front runners in the C group and a load of B's. Got dropped by a few on the climb to the bridge but by the 100m sign we were a good group of 8, 4 Cs and 4 B's. And basically we held together as a group, picking up 2 more, all the way to the Italian village whereby all the B's and a couple of the Cs took off in to the sunset leaving me and an American lady to drag each other to the finish. We stuck together all the way till 300 m out when I knew she would kick and was ready. I crossed the line about 1/4 sec ahead pushing over 500w for the last 200m. It turns out on ZPower she was actually a B rider!!. Anyway, all was good and took the bronze. Notice I wasn't the only STW rider in the race with another of us well up in the B group. Well done Phil.
Pretty wasted now.
BUT, and this is a big BUT. weigh in after the race puts me just below my Corpulent Collective target weight 🙂 and I was able to see a weight below 85 kg for the first time in over 20 years. Result. Had my tea now so unlikely to see the same tomorrow morning for the weigh in but is promising for next week./
Well done Welshfarmer, always good to get a podium.
Brilliant on the race and the weight!
A workout tonight with Glasgow Green, on the wrong bike forgot I was on TT still had to push all the way just to keep up with group, the draft makes a massive difference !!
.....and it shows in ZP (proper hard work, was sweating like a ................. 🙂 )
So became a great workout in the end.
Weigh in tomorrow for Chub Club better be good cause my legs are ruined. (i've only eaten 1000cals today and just burnt that)

Massive thumbs up as it's tough, 85KG is my target for next week and I'm miles off......Great work 🙂
You keep riding like you have been Matt and you will make the 85 sooner than later. Haha, just looked at your Strava profile and we have more or less identical stats for this year 🙂
This time last year I was a mid pack C but family and ill health took over and I crept up to 101kg at xmas. 6 weeks ago I had ablation for atrial fibrillation, 2 weeks ago I started some short zwift rides, feeling safe in my garage rather than having AF miles from home.
This week I got bored of taking it easy so did a few races, dropping down to D, my heart is still healing so max HR is down but it's great to be exercising again.
Well done for getting back on it. Take it easy mind and listen to your body.
Eeeeek.. Well done drive, keep safe buddy.
Well done for getting back on it. Take it easy mind and listen to your body.
This 🙂
Good work though..
Last night was the week 3 10 minutes best effort workout from the 4wk FTP booster for me.
After setting a new ftp on Sunday the lead up was that little bit harder, but went into the main effort feeling good.
The aim was to maintain 380w for the first 9 minutes then empty myself in the last minute. Didn't quite work out like that...
All ready to set up and found that I'd left the laptop charger at work, so had to download the Zwift app to my phone.
Didn't really think about route due to the faf and ended up on Watopia figure 8. I'd normally try to pick a route with the mountain to climb. There are a lot of kicks on the section where the test section started. Not ideal when trying to set a maximum steady effort.
Constant changing of gears throughout the ride to try to maintain a decent average at a reasonably steady cadence was putting me off. For every little downhill I felt I had to put a bit more effort in to raise the average again. Peaked at 684w at one point after a section at 282w.
Looking on Strava today shows a new 10 minute average of 423w. No wonder I could hardly stand after getting off the bike. If I could maintain that for 20 minutes my FTP would be over 400w.
Two more workouts before the FTP test. I'll be picking the route very carefully this time (Alpe du Zwift may be ideal for this), and not using Zwift on a 4 inch screen. Aiming for 380w average again.
In't Zwift fun?
Well done for getting back on it. Take it easy mind and listen to your body.
Thanks, definitely am listening to body, the doctor said I had no restrictions after the insertion site had healed.
Checked the results this morning and I came 3rd so hopefully I'll be back up to C soon
Thetallpaul, do you not have a smart trainer? In ERG mode, the course you choose won’t matter which can be handy.
Great work on the power too 👍🏻👍🏻
I have a Tacx Vortex, but didn't realise that was possible. How do I do that in Zwift as I'm in a workout?
There should be an ERG checkbox on the workout page that you can tick.
In the workout I was following ERG mode was controlling the wattage for the buildup. When I started the free ride section it changed the resistance according to the terrain.
Forgive me if I'm climbing the wrong tree here. If I select the ERG mode button (I assume it's a button in the companion) the resistance will change back to being constant in the free ride section and I just change gears to get to the required wattage?
Ah sorry- I’ve never done a workout on there with a ‘free ride’ section. I assumed it would revert to slope mode which is a constant resistance like you get during an FTP test but it may well go into simulation mode...
In the free ride mode during those tests you're solely using your gears and the ERG mode is disabled. Last time i did one i couldn't change the resistance to make the ride smoother. I preferred to use a flat route for my FTP test but might try it again once they release ADZ. Wonder if it would differ much
FTP tests are definitely not Sim mode- they just give you a steady resistance.
Looks like that workout does not follow the same rules then. Cheers for looking.
did the 12:05 WBR 6 Lap Volcano Flat Race, got 1st in C with eemy off of here up in 3rd in B was a tough one, tried to hang with a group up front but got dropped at some point, eased up and settled into a group behind, probably about 10 riders, bunch dragged in a lot of stragglers that had been dropped later in the race, sprint for the line was hard, riders everywhere, wasn't first of the C's over the line, but with those without HRM and upgrades to B i ended up first, happy days
Well done Dan. Great result. And Graeme too. No slouch either. Not mad keen on the Volcano flat circuit for some reason. May have to give it another go one day.
I’ve got a nearly new Tacx Flow T2240 for sale in the classifies if anyone is after one?
And Graeme too. No slouch either.
Thank you kindly sir. I have to say, I felt pretty good and thought I might even be able to put in a big finish...............then reality hit when everyone sprinted away. No way I was going to stay with them never mind overhaul them. Good race though.
I did a 2hr 5 min Zwift ride this morning. Wanted some decent pedal time but rain stopped play this morning. It was a gentle pace, but got a reasonable distance done in the end.
Just finished setting up my Tacx2240, thanks to the tips I've read on this thread previously. Even a quick bimble round the volcano a couple of times suggests it's going to be a tougher workout than the dumb trainer I had before.
I joined the STW Zwift strava group, so look for a few segment leaderboards being propped up by me in the very near future.
What races are recommended these days, i ride around 2000 in the week, which used to be the KISS events?
Matt
Well if my sheep behave I am signed up to race tomorrow. 3 hours of MTB orienteering around the sides of the lower Wye Valley so expecting over 1000m of climbing over about 50+km! I am hoping my weight loss and FTP increases will have made a difference. The proof of the pudding will come tomorrow....
We'll that was an interesting loop on the Whyte t130. I did a loop I've done plenty of times and was either quicker or very close to my best ever times on many sections. Many of them I've ridden on road bikes too. Happily, the climbs which should suit the road bike massively I was still quicker on the full suspension bike.
One of crosshairs favourite hills, drag out of hermitage I was a couple of seconds only off my best ever.
Really pleased.
