Rio, who was trying to sit on the keyboard when I was thinking up a name.

Nickname from uni days to differentiate a number of Phil's - and not anything to do with a British traitor.

Umm, yeah...

I have a fascination and appreciation for sharks and i thought sharks 'n' fannys would be a mouthful.

It's a long story...

The make of a bike that I used to ride when I first started posting on bike forums, mixed with the surname of a legendary footballer.

Then had to put a 2 on the end when this place crashed.

Coz we all know the best things come in bricks...

dont think i've started a thread about user-names.... once considered a "what do you do in real life" thread but someone beat me to it and i saw the STW "ohhh you havent been here long, try using the forum search, you're an idiot, we dont like people who aren't local, i'd fight and die for your right to do so!" type reaction... so decided not to 😀

consequence - second half of band name, infinitely better than my real-life surname.

Mine stems from childhood when my nan came to stay with us one weekend. I walked into the kitchen and she was bent over only wearing her nighty.
I've been in shock ever since.

About 10 years ago myself and a couple of mates bought a Peugeot 505 Estate (8 Seater) for going surfing, which affectionately became known as 'the bus' or 'the surf bus' which is where my username came from.
We still have 'surf bus' nights out to this day, although I don't surf much anymore.

Not need, but choice, I've got a couple names on other forums, they're often first name & surname initial but here the trend seems to be more towards the made up or fanciful. Before the forum crash I had a user name that was bike-firstname related, but a change in bike rendered that obsolete.

Mine is a nickname from my rugby playing days. Its not at all original - my hands shake and therefore the guys called me Shakey!

I got caught on the hop and had to think of something quickly as all the various permutations of my name had been taken. Think I was on yahoo chess. It still smarts that there is at least one other person using my name as his/her email address/username. Not fair.

I've use my number plate name.

my name is thom, and before the crash i was thom; but someone said they'd never noticed it. so i changed it to thomthumb. wish i'd done thomthum though!

I've got quite a long surname (one that john drummer might be familiar with) so it's just a shortened version of my name with a silent p. It's what people have called me for 45 years or so 8)

Joined Tri club, became a coach, bought shiny new carbon race bike, had serious spinal injury, now have carbon fibre cage keeping spine in one piece... given moniker by the lads after first club run following recovery!

Second name is Donald,nickname was Ducky,I had a gay housemate years ago who changed it to Duckman so people didn't think he was being camp,(which since he was a 6"6" second row was unlikely)It stuck.I on occasion see somebody at parents evening who marches into my classroom with their child and uses it.

Used to be fatbob. Lost 21kg. Still trying to earn my name.

Just an initial and my surname with a couple of extra letters thrown in for good measure.

Sold about 3 years ago, the speed was too easy (and addictive)!

Last bit is my name, the first two was caused by having a c**p time at work which was having a big impact on my life. Work problem solved - STW name remains as a reminder not to let myself get into such a state

First name Ian, second name Barrington, which is too long for general use, so it got shortened to B. I was regularly called Mister B at Uni, but IanB is shorter and I think MrB had been taken. Not very imaginative really.

Because I get ridden by David Hasselhoff every day.

My name is toby. Most of my mates are too lazy for two whole sylables, so everyone ends up calling me Toab.

Could just as easily be Tobe I suppose...

Got fed up trying to choose an original name and finding all the original ones had been taken. 😐

Thought to myself 'duntmatter, does it?', et voila.

I ride to work a lot of the time so work mates began calling me Sturmey Archer that was 20+ years ago and the name just stuck. Also the first real bit of bike maintenance after fitting cow horns was to rebuild a SA 3 speed hub after jumping my bike in to the canal and all the workings in the hub went rusty.
