*Apart messing about on bikes in the woods.

I'm going for an American Football try out day on Sunday.... I'm 42 😳

Do I still have it? ... Played for GB youth a hundred years ago.

Give me your examples of mid-life mass stupidity. Did you enjoy it (what ever it was) or wished you'd left it alone.

Easy one this.

It's deciding that I needed an all-mountain gnar machine which weighed the same as the HMS Endurance, was far too short in the top tube and had the forgiving handling of an early seventies Porsche 911.

The replacement for my previous XC bike has 150/140mm of travel, weighs 28lb, climbs extremely well and is far better downhill than my old AM monster.

@willard. I've wanted to do my AFF since I did a tandem dive years ago. Unfortunately never quite got round to it.

I just bought a trials bike this year, and a new electric guitar. I already own 2 nice guitars, neither of which I've played for years, so obviously a new one made perfect sense.

Oh and I'm restoring a motorbike, because I am a walking cliche

Danny, just do it.

I did a tandem at Saarlouis in August and laughed all the way down from 15k to 6k and decided that I wanted to learn then. It's taken me this long to book it and jump. Now I have started, I just need two more to get past the AFF part, then another 12 or so and some exams before I can get my A license.

Yes, hooked. it is such good fun.

It may not be the most costly, but the ukulele has to be mentioned too!

Kids here too. 3 year old and a 5 year old. I'm 46.

Which of course leads onto me 'needing' a Transition PBJ in chrome to visit the skate parks and pump tracks with my 5 year old boy.

Believing that the credit crunch in 2007/8 was something that I could work through and keeping a full complement of staff for a year too long ..virtually brought the business to its knees and only a very large loan which has taken 7 years to pay off has kept me ticking over ..in hindsight maybe I should just have gone bust but I have always believed in ' doing the right thing ' ..more fool me 😕
Couldn't have done it without my woman to keep me sane ..

I'll accept that if only because it suggests I can get in and out of these things in an afternoon, for minimum spend. Anyway MC's going to buy it off me.

A colleague plays the bagpipes and practices here at the end of the working day. I had a few days of thinking I was losing my mind before I realised.

Yes, hooked. it is such good fun.

I got bored of skydiving - there's really only so many ways you can fall out of a plane. Also the cost and the sitting around at airfields waiting for the cloud to clear / wind to drop got tiresome.

Not sure I've had a mid-life crisis yet but I'm 40 now so there must be one round the corner!

I'd LOVE a mid-life crisis! For me it would be paragliding, did a tandem a few years back and fell hopelessly in love with it. Unfortunately shifts that are all over the shop and the vagaries of the UK weather put paid to it being anything more than a dream.

*edit* Actually, I'm trying to persuade the Mrs to let me chop my yaris in for a Nissan Cube, does that count?

Bought an MX-5. What's silly about that you hear? Nothing. The silly part was selling it to cycle to work every day (he says watching a Biffa bin make its way past the office window propelled only by the wind).

I wanted a midlife crisis when I turned forty this year. Can’t afford one though. Really wanted to get a Cotic Flare. Living on the edge, that’s me.

Does having a second child count?

SammyC - I’m officially on sabbatical from my old place but working for my father in law in the meantime (he has his own business). Other half is on gardening leave!

Jekkyl - bit of a lifestyle change I think. Just going to see what opportunities are out there... the excitement of the unknown!

I’ve been trying to swing a motorbike for last 7 or 8 years, since I was late 20s so that doesn’t count.

I’ve been thinking of learning to surf but I live about as far from the sea as its possible to get.

I’ll probably get an MX-5 or boxster or something in the next 5-10 years. I’m 35 now so a bit til I hit peak mid life crisis

BMX racing. Never did it as a kid so 40 seems the obvious age to scare the crap out of myself on an iddy biddy bike. Love it though.

Started playing drums again with a few lads from work. Still going after four years, really enjoying it.

Went to an audition last week for a part in a play at the local theatre. Never acted before. They offered me the part 😯 😳

Looking forward to it. Off to pick up my script tonight!

Which crisis exactly?
I suppose mine in my 50's is the Lapiz blue VW Golf sitting outside
In my 40's it was taking up cycling again, in particular mountain biking. Best think I ever did as it has improved my life in so many ways.
In my late 30's it was taking a year off work and going round the world on my own

44 years old. 4 kids. 2 in college. Youngest 5. Oldest 22. Super demanding job that keeps getting busier.

Just signed as a personal guarantor for a new business (so I'm on the hook if it goes tits up). Am basically funding a new personal training and MMA gym that will be run daily by someone else with my wife and I managing the back office, finances etc. I will also train people there at the weekends (as an MMA striking coach).

In my mind, this will be fun and successful gig on the side, pay for a new motorbike and lease me a nice new car next year.

In reality I will be a stressed-out, debt-ridden nervous wreck with no time for an actual life and will be beaten senseless in sparring by stronger, fitter, faster animals 20 years my junior.

WTF am I thinking?!? 🙂

Not had one for about 16 years..a motorcycle that is, not a strimmer.

next installment might be one of those geometron frames 🙄

hoping that my late-mid life crisis will involve quitting work and doing lots of biking and me and MrsPants travelling to moderately interesting places (mostly with my bike(s) too)

Took up road racing at 45. Have now just become a second Cat at 50. I think it took my club mate four races to get the same progression!

Ripstik riding is a lot of fun, especially at the Skate Park.

And wearing the kids hand-me-down Converses because my feet are smaller and narrower than theirs.

I just quit a well paying job with no other job to go to, because it was the most toxic place I've ever worked and was ruining my mental health. Still have a mortgage and bills and everything although thankfully not commensurate with my peers, who have been spending money on tick like it was the apocalypse. Not sure what the next step is.

I can paint and cook and have a chemistry degree. Anyone hiring?
