Happened across a couple of tracks from my youth and it got me thinking about long songs (5mins+)

Maybe a bit indie disco but have some Wedding Preset...

I can never make it past 6 minutes, it would be a great 3-4 minute song:

Ah loads by New Order. I'd rather the Sister Ray cover though, all 9 minutes of it...

Magma - 'Mëkanïk Dëstruktï? Kömmandöh' Only 46 mins. Not for everyone (not for many?) - but it totally blows me away and has done for over a decade, even so far as making most of the other music I listen to kind of limpid. Christian Vander (drummer/composer) even invented a whole new language in order to carry the myths described by the music. Genius, silly, operatic, complex, repetitive, dynamic, moving, in fact it defies all description. Wagnerspacerockummlautmathjazzfusion? nah, I give up. It is the very antithesis of today's 55 second concentration span. Now I'm getting no more work done until after lunch 👿 headphones it is. dark room it is.

Just about every track from Verve's Urban Hymns... Ashcroft may write some good songs but he has no idea how to finish one.

Doors, full version of Light my Fire.

But also The End - which takes ages of saying this is the end, before it actually is the end. Or rather the Eeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnddddddd.

Edit - David's last Summer, good call! Love the line about the pale skin bikini, proper poet is Cocker.

Ah, a "getting your money's worth out of a quid in the CD jukebox" thread!

Telegraph Road (Dire Straits), November Rain (GnR), One and Orion (Metallica) were always sage choices, and if you could find Pink Floyd's Echoes in there you were set for the long haul.

Underworld have some big juicy long ones

+1. And a back-catalogue that has been for me the BEST soundtrack to my solo rides over the last decade. Used to slap on headphones and lose self in the Wyre forest for hours. Found out recently Karl Hyde is from Bewdley. funny old world.

Sorry Muzzle!

Just to add I include these as they have short versions which were singles/radio versions but I actually prefer the full length versions, particularly the outro to resurection which is chopped in the shorter version.

Can - Halleluhwah (18.32) my absolute favourite Can song.

Velvets - Sister Ray (many different versions, there was a three record bootleg, sweet sister ray, with nothing but it on it, but there's a 38.00 version recorded live in the matrix San Fran. 🙂 )

Blood Embrace - Superwolf (a mere 7.55)

Beware (extended version) - Al Green (15)

One Fine Morning - Bill Callahan (8.45)

Cat Power - Nuthin But Time (10.54)

Chris Woods - England in Ribbons (12.58)

Credence Clearwater Revival - I Heard it through the grapevine (11.04)

Old Neil has got quite a few classics running towards 10 minutes (my favourite, On The Beach fails just shy of 7 though)

Even Roxy Musics If There Is Something spins to 6.34

And last, but not least, my current favourite song of the the moment: I Break Horses - (smog) which scrapes in a 6.13

I could go on (and on, and on).

I love long songs me I really do....

A bit of Neil Young.

A short version of this.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the album version of Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts or Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands by Dylan.

And for balance I hate Hey Jude with a passion.

Gets played over and over and over. From about 4.20 onwards it just goes nuts. Almost feel like they ran out of buttons to press. Love it!

And I will never ever, ever, ever get tired hearing Loaded.
