Happened across a couple of tracks from my youth and it got me thinking about long songs (5mins+)
Maybe a bit indie disco but have some Wedding Preset...
new order. blue Monday. extended version.
I can never make it past 6 minutes, it would be a great 3-4 minute song:
Ah loads by New Order. I'd rather the Sister Ray cover though, all 9 minutes of it...
It's the way he goes a bit mental at the end
and from my yoof
Magma - 'Mëkanïk Dëstruktï? Kömmandöh' Only 46 mins. Not for everyone (not for many?) - but it totally blows me away and has done for over a decade, even so far as making most of the other music I listen to kind of limpid. Christian Vander (drummer/composer) even invented a whole new language in order to carry the myths described by the music. Genius, silly, operatic, complex, repetitive, dynamic, moving, in fact it defies all description. Wagnerspacerockummlautmathjazzfusion? nah, I give up. It is the very antithesis of today's 55 second concentration span. Now I'm getting no more work done until after lunch 👿 headphones it is. dark room it is.
Underworld have some big juicy long ones. Can't quite match the 46 mins above, but...
Pulp - David's Last Summer. about 7 minutes worth, including quite a lot of synth.
🙂
Just about every track from Verve's Urban Hymns... Ashcroft may write some good songs but he has no idea how to finish one.
I am the resurrection full version
Fools gold 9:53
I am the resurrection full version
Fools gold 9:53
Nonsense.
Doors, full version of Light my Fire.
But also The End - which takes ages of saying this is the end, before it actually is the end. Or rather the Eeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnddddddd.
Edit - David's last Summer, good call! Love the line about the pale skin bikini, proper poet is Cocker.
Jimmy Eat World – Goodbye Sky Harbor
All 16 minutes and 13 seconds of it 🙂

Ah, a "getting your money's worth out of a quid in the CD jukebox" thread!
Telegraph Road (Dire Straits), November Rain (GnR), One and Orion (Metallica) were always sage choices, and if you could find Pink Floyd's Echoes in there you were set for the long haul.
This is the track that spring to mind for me. 4mins of just getting started
Good old KLF could stretch out a tune.
Longer live versions also available:
...and if you could find Pink Floyd's Echoes in there you were set for the long haul.
I'll see your Echoes and raise you a "Thick as a Brick".
5+ minutes, long? Pah.
Not a favorite but it does go on a bit this:
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird.. 🙄
Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell.. 😈
can't do youtube at work but....
Iron Butterfly - In a gadda da vida - used to great affect in the original manhunter wuith brian cox (not the scientist) as hannibal.
Led Zepplin - Moby dick (live) 'ladies and gentlemen...John Bonham'
Led Zepplin - Moby dick (live) 'ladies and gentlemen...John Bonham'
Drummers eh? 🙄
Toad - Ginger Baker.
Guns and Roses - November Rain. cheesy but a classic.
Metallica - One - fab 7/8 minutes of life
Doors - The End- indeed +1, when I'm in the mood it just is fab, makes me feel all existential... off to look up what that word means,
Underworld have some big juicy long ones
+1. And a back-catalogue that has been for me the BEST soundtrack to my solo rides over the last decade. Used to slap on headphones and lose self in the Wyre forest for hours. Found out recently Karl Hyde is from Bewdley. funny old world.
Sorry Muzzle!
Just to add I include these as they have short versions which were singles/radio versions but I actually prefer the full length versions, particularly the outro to resurection which is chopped in the shorter version.
Has anyone put Flowered Up Weekender up? Cant see youtube links in work.
The Damned Curtain Call
The Tubes White Punks on Dope
Feel the motorik
Not that long in terms of music but MrMud and Mr Gold by Townes Van Zandt has a lot of words!
Manuel Gottsching and Neu! Will be keeping my eye on this thread. Maybe due a list of similar motorik choons to cycle with, always looking out for some to add.
Can - Oh Yeah
Tuesdays Gone - Lynryd Skynyrd
or the Metallica version on Garage Days which is even longer
G'n'R- I take your November Rain and give you Coma 10+ minutes
How could I forget D.O.A. and Jello Biaffra Full Metal Jackoff, killer intro and repeat to fade "embrace the red white and blue reich"
Can - Halleluhwah (18.32) my absolute favourite Can song.
Velvets - Sister Ray (many different versions, there was a three record bootleg, sweet sister ray, with nothing but it on it, but there's a 38.00 version recorded live in the matrix San Fran. 🙂 )
Blood Embrace - Superwolf (a mere 7.55)
Beware (extended version) - Al Green (15)
One Fine Morning - Bill Callahan (8.45)
Cat Power - Nuthin But Time (10.54)
Chris Woods - England in Ribbons (12.58)
Credence Clearwater Revival - I Heard it through the grapevine (11.04)
Old Neil has got quite a few classics running towards 10 minutes (my favourite, On The Beach fails just shy of 7 though)
Even Roxy Musics If There Is Something spins to 6.34
And last, but not least, my current favourite song of the the moment: I Break Horses - (smog) which scrapes in a 6.13
I could go on (and on, and on).
I love long songs me I really do....
Dirge - Wings of lead over dormant seas
Clocks in just on the hour
'What goes on' live 1969 by Velvet Underground
'Street Hassle' by Lou Reed
'Bogus Man' by Roxy Music
'Spill the wine' by Eric Burdon / War
For Pigface
for me
Long song thread? Sounds like a job for Mogwai
Still a goto-listen when in the car, makes me tingle...
+1 for GnR Coma
Thanks Dez
21 minutes of drum and bass bliss.
Edit - and

Johnny Was - Stiff Little Fingers (cover of the Bob Marley classic)
Shelter From the Storm - The Mission
Amongst many others.

Oh, and pretty much anything by Solstafir:
A bit of Neil Young.
A short version of this.
Unfortunately I couldn't find the album version of Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts or Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands by Dylan.
And for balance I hate Hey Jude with a passion.
Frank Zappa, Yo Mama. 12:39
The full version of Common People is a verse too long.
More Neil!
Leave them all behind - Ride
8'ish minutes with a brilliant intro.
Rush La Villa Strangiato
Well if we are coming over all Steve Reich, I give you Terry Riley "In C".
+1 for marquee moon. I want that played at my funeral.
I'll add joy riding with Frank by rollins band. 30mins of awesomeness! In this video it is from 38.56mins in-
Sorry for the charming screenshot!
New Order's finest moment IMO...
Gets played over and over and over. From about 4.20 onwards it just goes nuts. Almost feel like they ran out of buttons to press. Love it!
And I will never ever, ever, ever get tired hearing Loaded.
And probably Stereolab's finest moment, love this song - it's got everything that was great about that band...
Faith no more, Epic. Didn't realise how it went on until I did karaoke one night and it got a bit embarassing.
Supper's ready by Genesis. All 23 minutes of it. Very cheesy and prog rock, but I liked it.
Eight minutes of Kirsty McColl loveliness, courtesy of Mr Bragg:
Crikey, there's loads -
Jimi Hendrix 'Who knows' about 15 minutes of live brilliance
Ditto 'Machine Gun' (Surprised no-one's mentioned that)
Any number of Cream live tracks from the 60's
The Incredible String Band could go on a bit .....
Forgot this -
Halleluwah & Mother Sky by Can, 18 & 14 minutes. Then She Did & Three Days by Janes Addiction, 8 & 11. Low Spark of The High Heeled Boys by Traffic, 11 minutes. Blackpool Tower Suite by World of Twist, 10 minutes. Thats about it.
Quite a few in the Spritualized roster...
All you ever need:
Sleep- Dopesmoker whole album (as in both sides) is one awesome stoner metal song
