I'd start by whacking everything up to eleven and then belting out a dirty riff-tastic version of this absolute banger

As opener? Wind it up and let it go…

There's only one choice and it has to be done like this:

But I'd let the opening dischord hang there for just long enough

Aside from the fact that my band doesn’t do covers...

Should I stay or should I go

I think it would have to be this (which I’d dedicate to our prime minister on account of the wonderful job he’s doing...):

Then maybe this:

If they've come to watch your cover band then

And finish with this because it might not get much better.

Same opening number as any of the other gigs we did

Some good calls for other tracks up there too - some we covered, others I'd have liked to cover

E.g. from a more intimate affair at a pub run by a friend

Surely, for added cheese, you start with Let Me Entertain You?

As Martinhutch says, if you can borrow someone else's (much bigger) sound system, Thunderstruck by Acker Dacker.

Mind you, everything after that will then be a disappointment, but hey ho

I was in sort of a covers band in the 80s (just a bunch of mates really)
We opened with Rock On by the great Mr. Glitter, so I'd go with that. Awesome in every way.

The Cult is the correct answer, but I'd go for these over anything from 'Love' (except maybe 'Rain').

The obvious choice for me would be:

But I’d be tempted with:
