Revelator by the Tedeschi Trucks Band
Lots of stuff to go and get over the weekend.

New Model Army. Thunder and Consolation. Rediscovered after 20 ish years
I guess I've got to go for Elbow - Build A Rocket Boys, Laura Marling - A Creature I Do Not Know, Mechanical Bride - Living With Ants, Howling Bells - The Loudest Engine and Gemma Hayes - Let It Break
Oh, and, of course The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
Elbow's O2 gig was outstanding, and after something like four/five years of waiting, Mechanical Bride's album was a joy to listen to, and I managed to see her twice, and chat after the gigs, too.
Listening to Hybrid's album at the mo', after someone recommended it, and I'm rather enjoying that album, too.
I was going to say Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, but apparently that was late November last year. And I think I said it this time last year. That's an astonishing album though.
This year:
Scroobius Pip - Distraction Pieces
Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee
Kanye West/Jay-Z - Watch The Throne
Some very good free stuff too - Pusha T's Fear Of God, Friend of the People by Lupe Fiasco, and especially Cookies or Comas by Jean Grae. Asher Roth's Pabst and Jazz came out yesterday, first listen sounds great.
I'm under strict instructions to add Foster the People's "Torches" to the list ๐
Lots of good calls but Hadge and count zero have got it right - Build A Rocket Boys, the most "growy" album I've heard in years really disappointed in it on first listen but now OMG it's Legend...
Saw lots of live stuff this year too but there as well Mr Garvey and friends win hands down saw them in Liverpool and Brighton both astonishing nights. If anyone doubts it try to find the radio 2 gig they broadcast from Manchester Cathedral stunning absolutely stunning
Runners up probably the vaccines or my morning jacket both even better live if you get the chance, was gutted I couldn't get tickets for Bjork that looked like it would have been amazing too.
My album of the year will definately keep you awake!
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Awesome!!!
Foo Fighters got me interested when they released White Limo, but unfortunately I thought the rest of the album sounded like their usual sound that they've done a load of times before.
For me they've become a bit like RHCP in that they've found a specific sound/style and just keep reproducing it over and over again. I do like them a lot, but I really want them to do something slightly different for a change.
I really Like The Civil Wars album Barton Hollow
Let England Shake is probably the best album of the year, that I've heard.
Love Beirut's The Rip Tide though, probably my favourite album.
Little Dragon have made some good music, but the album is patchy.
In fact, despite being only five tracks long, I think SELENE might be the best thing this year.
Uses Clint Mansell's score from Moon, mixed by Max Tannone, and with vocals by Richard Rich, who's a really underrated and unheard New York rapper. Really worth a listen, even if you aren't necessarily a hiphop fan, especially as it's free.
(Does have swearing etc, so don't play it at work or anything.)
Ooh. Cliff Martinez's soundtrack for Drive. Awesome stuff. Almost forgot about it.

Damn straight.
*slips on 80s shades*
As for fav album, too many this year as usual.
There's a Civil Wars track I really like, I kept meaning to hunt down some more of their stuff but forgot, thanks for the reminder ๐
Peej walks it for me, Let England Shake is incredible.
Some other notable long-players what I have enjoyed this year:
Battles, Gloss Drop.
The Field, Looping State of Mind.
Plaid, Scintilli.
Thao and Mirah, Thao and Mirah.
The Decemberists, The King Is Dead.
Gruff Rhys, Hotel Shampoo.

Got tickets to see the Civil Wars in Bristol next March, really looking forward to it.
Along with gigs by Laura Marling (again) and Judie Tzuke, with her daughter Bailey as support.
Honeyfest looks interesting for next April, too.
I wish that I had read this thread eailer as I could have answered the "what do you want for Christmas" question.
For me it has been (again hard to harrow it down to one):
Build a Rocket Boys, Elbow
Go Now and Live, We are the Ocean
Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay
Wasting Light, Foos, (although I do agree that they are quickly becoming the RHCP)
What did you expect, The Vaccines
Th1rt3en, Megadeth
I could listen to these over and over and never get bored.
Howler of the year = Lulu, Lou reed and Metallica
Nero .- Welcome Reality . When im in the mood for some dubstep , dance music
Like others have said.
M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
Also worth a mention
Tyco - Dive
Good call on Tyco.
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks- Mirror Traffic (produced by Beck)
Autolux- Transit Transit
Colourmusic- My____is Pink
White Denim- Last day of summer
Just been listening to Tom Ravenscroft on 6Records, and he played a track from another album I've really enjoyed this year, after seeing the artist at the Fleece in Bristol: Sea Of Bees - Song For The Ravens. Lovely album, her voice sounds a bit odd at first, but it really gets under your skin after a while, and just keeps begging to be played.
3 cd's of christmas tunes on repeat for 3 weeks where I work. I'm surprised I haven't sliced off an innocent childs head
I think I'll be going for ****ed Up- David Comes To Life... Though tbh I don't totally rate the album, live it's astonishing.
And Virtue by Emmy the Great... Some ropey tracks but saved by gigantic standouts.
I can't decide as there's been some great stuff this year. The list of nominees for me includes whats already been mentioned including
PJ - Let England Shake
Baxter Dury- Happy Soup
Aiden Moffat & Bill Wells- Everything gets older
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks- Mirror Traffic
Pete & the Pirates-one thousand pictures
White Denim- D
Wild BEasts - Smother
Tom Waits- Bad as Me
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
el camino, the Black Keys.
despite spending a small fortune on cds this year, not many of them were "new" - finger's slipping off the pulse there.
the standout album for me is Girl Talk - All Day, a masterpiece of sampling bits and bobs together that's had me shaking my money-maker in far too public places. Link to free download
El Camino -The Black Keys
High probability that no-one has heard of these guys, but essential listening if you like black metal and Godflesh:
Blut Aus Nord - 777 (Sects) / The Desantification (first two parts of a proposed trilogy)
I have a top 20 of 2011 up here:

WTF is going on?
A 3 page thread and none of the STW Big Hitters have been on yet decrying the tyranny of the pentatonic scale and how we are all fools only perpetuating the hegemony of Western capitalist ,musical and cultural imperialism.Real music is all about nose flutes, konghus,Tibetan chanting, jinghus and of course digeridoos....and only ever live not recorded.
Must be too many mince pies.
For me it has got to be distraction pieces by Scroobious Pip, pure genius.
El camino by the black keys and Elbow build a rocket boys are also near the top of the list, as is at your inconvenience by Professor Green, bit of a guilty pleasure but good all the same.
Manran by manran stunning playing andsinging from a passionate and exciting live band
