Been driving myself mad for months trying to sort this out and I feel i'm somewhere close...My current set up is:

Iphone 4s with jailbreak..

Laptop with itunes on

1.Laptop is connected to my Tv via Hdmi ( this becomes my computer in Itunes airplay setting) probably going to get another Airport Express to save having to turn Tv on...This plays my library through my Surround sound system..

2.Pc in second bedroom with surround sound, Airport express plugged directly into surround so no need to turn PC on...

3. Main bedroom surround sound, Apple Tv linked to Surround so no need to turn TV on...

Plan on adding Kitchen and Bathroom in a while...

While all this works and i can control it through my phone ( once itunes is running)I can't believe i need it all to run through itunes..
I've looking everywhere for an App ( cydia as well) that will allow multiroom selection from the phone but found nothing..

The other solution if no such thing exists is a stand alone itunes system, Media player, netbook etc which would be left on all the time and just run itunes...Any idea whats the least spec wise i can get away with to run just itunes..

I think other things running on my laptop sometimes interfere with itunes and cause it to stutter...

I have all my music on my phone and it seems silly to have to rely on itunes and a laptop to run it...

One last thing..would changing my router to an Airport Extreme help anywhere?

Any ideas

Thanks
Anthony

Install the apple remote app
Run iTunes on the computer
Use the remote app to control iTunes and you can select multiple speakers

Yep got the remote and it works fine, just trying to avoid having to turn laptop on and having it sat there just being a Hub....

As mentioned other solution would be a netbook or media player with just Itunes on but not sure what i'm doing on that front...

Why can't you run itunes from an ipad or similar i don't know,
Apple stuff is great but they do seem to put a few little stumbling blocks in the way to stop it all flowing perfectly ( Airport express not transfering sound on video springs to mind )

Come on there must be a work around where i can just walk in the house and turn on all my sound via my Iphone...

If you find a solution make damn sure you come back and let me know please.

I hope apple add multiple devices in a future update (or a solution turns up in android by the time I switch phones again)

Trouble with the update is you can't jailbreak till the boys have worked on it...hence I'm still on 5.1.

I mean your Iphone is synced with your Itunes so why do you have to run itunes on a seperate machine....mad

I make do with this, but sometimes it might be nice to save the power of running the laptop. I'm pretty certain this will be added in an update in due course, particularly as iPhones and iPads are ever more powerful and I'm sure they could handle the wireless and processing demands. Won't hurt to email Apple if it really annoys you...

If you get an airport express + speakers, you can play directly from your iphone to the airport.

Um, yup. The key word in the OP was "multiroom"
