My boss is too cheap to have any functional junk mail filter on his Outlook 2002, so I I'm trying to manage it by unsubscribing to the various lists we are on.

Does this actually work, or do they just send you even more junk? (my guess is the latter)

Depends...a recognised name is normally fine, complete randoms...no idea.

It works.

Depending of course on the quality of their list provider. We use Maichimp and it's all automatic etc

Depends if we're talking legitimate stuff or not.

It's a legal requirement to allow your subscribers to unsubscribe, so should work most of the time.

I think the problem is they are sending to info@bikeshop.co.uk as well as sales@bikeshop.co.uk, cynic-al@bikeshop.co.uk, wedon'tcare@bikeshop.co.uk etc...

If they've gone to the effort to put an unsubscribe link in the email, then it will usually work. As above, its usually automated, but if you are on a mailing list that has been sold then you'll have to unsubscribe from each of the companies that bought that list.

Proper mailing lists it should work, if it's genuine spam however clicking a fake 'unsubscribe' link will simply tell them that they've found an active email address ready for further shafting
