Walking the 3 peaks in a couple of weeks with some friends and colleagues to rais money for the Donna Louise Trust.

I'm fairly (bike) fit and able but don't ever remember having walked this distance before. Did 15 miles around Shutlinsloe and the Roaches (for those who know it) last week and managed ok, though was a little foot sore by the end. No blisters thankfully.

Kit recommendations? Spare socks? How much food / water to take? Any advice appreciated!

If your walking at this time of year set off early to allow time to finish the hike in daylight

We have walked it three times this year. Take it easy coming down off Whernside, that's where I saw most slips and accidents.
It's a long way. Compeed for blisters, one pair of socks and plenty of fluids and dextrose tablets (coupled with Lidl trail mix, pork pies and bananas!) get me round.
The walk back to Horton in Ribblesdale from the top of Ingleborough takes forever, there are also some great places to slip and fall in the first half mile of your decent (not any height, just bruised muddy backsides!).
Set off early or you will be stuck in a convoy of selfie taking day walkers. Enjoy the scenery!

Did it on Wednesday last week (in Storm Aileen - oops) with MrsV.

For the both of us we took 4 Sandwiches, a bag of Sport Mix, 6 Energy Gels and 6 Protein bars. We had 2 Protein bars and 4 energy gels left at the end. We each had 2ltr camelbaks too.

Clothing-wise I had walking boots and thick socks, Endura Hummvee shorts, merino long-sleeve top, waterproof mid-weight jacket, beanie, buff and light-weight gloves.

I took a spare long sleeve merino top, and was very glad that I did, but other than that the only thing I wish I'd had differently was better gloves. While the rest of me was fine, I lost feeling in my fingers fairly early on (purely down to the storm) and struggled to get it back.
The storm tested the water-proof-ness of my jacket, and I was pretty sodden before long, but without over-playing the double-ard-northern-ness card, I'm quite good at shrugging that off...

The missus was more layered than me, but that's par for the course ๐Ÿ™‚

We set off at 6:45 and rather unbelievably were back by 4:40 - just under 10hrs despite the conditions, so was very pleased with that.

Fitness-wise, I'm pretty bike and running fit, and enjoy walking but rarely walk (or run) anything like even half that distance.

EDIT: As CHB says, that final stretch off Ingleborough goes on FOREVER!!! And that descent off Whernside is definitely the trickiest part.
