Have we done a Christmas Lurgy thread yet?

All was good until Xmas eve, now have the cough from hell and on antibiotics.  0/10, do not recommend.

Was Ok till yesterday, my steady 40 mle road ride felt like hard work, now have an annoying cough that hurts my lungs and stopped me getting much sleep last night. My week off work is looking a little problematic

Went to one of the local non-emergency walk in centres yesterday. In and out within 60 minutes, and most of the others there sounded like they had the same cough, including 3 babies.

Yep, managed to get it. Started on the evening of the 23rd, throat felt like it was full of razor blades. Managed to cook Christmas Dinner for everyone and self medicated with beer and whiskey, which I'm sure helped loads 😀

Boxing day was a write off mostly coughing my guts up, generally feeling more human now. Hoping to get out on the beers again tomorrow.

I was similar. 50k gravel ride yesterday and I felt very weak. I've had low level snot for a couple of weeks but it ramped up during and after yesterday's ride. Terrible nights sleep and woke up at 4am then couldn't get back to sleep. Felt like rubbish all day. Most annoyingly it's kiboshed my attempt at the Rapha 500😭

20 December some kind person went to the Rusby concert in Cambridge with a persistent cough. Sitting just in front of me and coughed into her hand the whole evening (how soon the pandemic lessons have been forgotten). 23 December I had a tickly throat, and man-flu (the bad sort) kicked in later that day. Christmas day was spent in a sleepy state, as was Boxing Day. Things started to abate yesterday and I'm back on DIY today with a cough and a streaming nose.

Christmas night began feeling very ropey and culminated in spewing and diarrhoea. Boxing Day was earmarked for a big ride to get on track with the festive 500 but spent in bed since. Done a couple of easy rides since but not much chance of finishing now as working tomorrow.

Had it since the 22nd - started as a snotty nose and then developed into full blown head & chest thing on Christmas Day.

Wheezing like I have the lung capacity of an asthmatic chain-smoking flea.....

Spoke to Dr and they've said it's viral so no antibiotics.

Starting to feel a bit better, just my back and ribs ache from coughing....

Do not recommend at all.....

Kid #2 diagnosed with likely Scarlet Fever 22nd - grim but recovering on antibiotics, now Kid #1 looking like may have it - been right bundles of joy, poor buggers feel grim not had much of a holiday. I am just glad we didn't go home to Ireland for the 2 weeks to share it with aging parents and try to wrangle them away from home.

I've not felt right since evening of 20th December, waking up exhausted everyday; mild sore throat; headaches; bit of sneezing but no coughing. Took it easy on the turbo all week, besides trying a race on Boxing Day, which began fine but quickly felt a really bad idea at race pace. Taste went a bit funny too.

Actually half-wondered if better half had brought covid home from work (NHS with in- and out- patients), I've had covid without coughing at least twice before, but no tests left.

Annoying, as I'd started to feel I was getting a bit fitter since my last lurgy in September, not been a good year for infections on top of my long covid!

Having been playing on the NHS website, 3 weeks of coughing is the point to contact your GP.

I don't feel too bad in myself, just the cough and wheezing. Don't fancy over doing it and making it worse. A gentle stroll to the shop and some yoga looks like my exercise today

Just done a 13 hour flight with someone who’s come down with it. Incubation period three days or so. My body is now 45% Vicks First Defence by volume.

I started coming down with it Xmas day. Boxing day was a write-off as I slept through. Given I normally run 10-15k a day yesterday was the 1st day I have run in a while and I was shattered maintaining a 6:30 pace with wild heart rates.

Hate being ill, HRV is currently in the low 40's though I did sleep last night which was the 1st proper night's sleep since boxing day so there's that

Another honking night of non-sleep

Went to bed at 10pm and pretty much woke up every hour on the hour. I was delighted when my alarm went off at 7am for work 😭

Got a sore throat / cough the week before Xmas, was not too bad Christmas day but not got rid of it, only done really easy exercise. Watch keeps telling me I've had stressful days and 3 metrics have been out of range over night, as if I need it to tell me I'm feeling rough...

Not sure what you are asking? I have 10 days holiday but not doing what I would have liked to be doing because of a little cough, will have to go in to work anyway tomorrow to make sure other people can do their jobs in the new year.

Very glad we spent a few days with family in Gloucestershire with broken central heating rather than with friends in Norfolk who had winter vomiting bug sweep through three generations starting early afternoon on Christmas Day...

Sore throat Xmas day, followed by a day of streaming nose. Thought that was it, then wheezy cough developed, chest hurts when coughing. I been ok at night toasty in bed. As soon as sit up this morning coughing started again. Some cough syrup has settled it somewhat now.

This is your body saying stop before you damage your heart, I would recommend listening and complying for a few days more

We have my mum’s funeral tomorrow and so many of the family have it.

Trying to tell them to stay in bed but I know everyone will turn up.

Staff from the care home will be there as well .

I just know it’s all going to go horribly wrong.

From my nephew…

Hi mum I am in a really bad way, Jess almost rang ambulance at 6 this morning as I was struggling to breath, my chest is so tight. Hot and cold sweats, I was sick earlier, really sore throat blocked nose , painful cough and the worst migraine for over 24hrs I’ve had no sleep I just feel horrible xxx

Garmin metrics finally back in range this morning, which is good.  Actually starting to bring stuff up when i cough which makes it feel turning a corner and hopefully my ribs won't feel like they're snapping.

If i wasn't on holiday from work I'd be off on the sick

Thank you, this morning my heart rate was running high but nothing like yesterday. I also slept last night for the first time properly in days. Hrv still low but improving... Ironically the run yesterday and the run today have apparently done more for my VO2 max the many runs I've done recently.. Strava put the load and over 200 for both runs which is amazing as I am fairly sure I've run a marathon at less than 200.. New year's Day for me would be a parkrun (very gentle chatty) and then I'm going to rest for about five days to let the body come back as this month I passed 300 kilometers about 2 weeks ago.

I noticed many people coughing at the supermarket earlier.  Almost like 4 weeks ago when I caught it badly twice.  It seems like some people get it earlier while others slightly later.  Not sure why that's the case.

I started mine early on 10th December, a week struggling to breathe with a barking, non-productive cough, followed by a week of random coughing fits, still feeling slightly wrung out now which is one of the reasons I've bailed on the festive 500. Still it's an improvement on last year when I spent my 2 weeks off work confined to the couch barely ably to breathe pumped up on steroids.

Mrs H has it now which is great accompaniment her ongoing chemo😭

Daughter is a nurse...she worked Christmas eve, worked Christmas day,... and got Norovirus, almost certainly from work. Sh1tting and barfing through the eye of a needle. Both at the same time. What a great Christmas present !

Just hoping we're not next, as Mrs and I  spent Christmas Day morning (between the 2 shift she did) with her and part of Boxing Day before she became ill.

Technically speaking you should book it as sick and get the holiday days back.

Had it since the 18th December. Spent a couple of days over Christmas in bed. Coughing so much it made me sick. Starting to feel normal again. My first thought was Covid. Hubby has a different version now, no coughing but lots of sneezing and a running nose. It's not been the best holiday.

People - don't cough into your hands. Wash them thoroughly and if you feel you're coming down with something or are ill don't go out spreading it. A doctor friend says the hospital where he works is often on its knees during the Flu/cold season.

Just got over it and it was a rough two weeks to say the least. Two courses of different antibiotics along a course of steroids for the chest infection. Felt grim but as I began to feel better, the fatigue hit me. Any exertion at all and I was floored. Will try a spin on the bike today🤞

I had something nasty at the start of December and it went and I felt great, did some serious road miles over Christmas. But something has come back, more like a nasty cold.

I've never been ill twice in a month before. Going to ask the doc for a blood test.

I know I've got off pretty lightly but the cough and streaming nose and fatigue really need to do one.

I had 12 months lurgy free despite lots of travelling then have had exactly the same in December, feels like a bounce back illness and lots of friends and family have been the same. Hopefully it’s on its way out now!

Well I'm still coughing and now ended up with the cold that hubby caught last week. Feeling a little fed up. At least I'm still on holiday.

I'm in limbo lurgy!

Have been sleeping in loads recently which is unusual for me and generally feeling 'a bit' tired and listless, also constantly clearing gunk out of my throat, although nose is clear.

Waking up with a hot dry throat but I think that's just my mouth breathing 🙄

Wouldn't complain but it's difficult to judge the wisdom of going out for a ride in beautiful but bitterly cold conditions outside, am erring towards a well wrapped up walk then gentle turbo session later.

Wouldn't mind but next CX race is looming large 😬

Nose still a bit snuffly and random coughs but also at the "Do I risk a kill or cure pootle on the bike?" stage.

Despite the cold, it's been dry here and it feels like a week of decent riding has been lost. Back to work tomorrow, at least my cold removed the urge to try and sneak some hours in to get ahead of the week I've got coming up.

Accepted common sense from my wife and got a dr appointment Friday and a pack of Doxycycline. Appears to have done the job as after 3 days of it I'm almost back to normal. Some kind of combo covid and a bacterial sinus infection he reckoned.

We been staying on the cost and every morning a large group of hardy /idiots assemble for a dip.

They are outside having fun I’m stuck in bed with just about every ailment going. All my clothes on ,double duvet, hat and still cold.

Do cold swimmers get ill?

Yep still feeling crap. Seems to come and go in waves. Desperately wanted to go out on the bike today before returning to work, as it's beautifully clear and lovely frozen grippy ground.

But no dragged myself out of bed at 8am and promptly fell asleep on the chair downstairs. Now lying in bed shivering as I feel cold even with the duvet and pj bottoms and t-shirt on.

Very frustrating.

Started feeling terrible the first day of work Christmas shut down. Still not good two weeks later.

Completely lost taste and smell so I'm guessing it's the bad COVID.

Back to work tomorrow 😔

My  wife, myself and 2 of 3 kids have been down with a cough/cold and other unpleasant symptoms (vomiting and..) It seems to match covid. Wife and I have been worst hit and seem to get good days and bad days but can't shake it.   She's had it 3½ weeks or more now and ive had it 2½plus.  Id feel a fraud if I put in sick for the 2 weeks holiday I've had though,  especially as it's kinda 2 bad days at say 40% then 2 better days at 70% .  A week in bed would be terrific...  just not possible with kids though 🫤

Wife and I had full on can't move out of bed flu from 23rd - xmas, boxing day, lads 18th and NYE all cancelled. Flu symptoms cleared but now both have nasty chesty coughs to go with a fuzzy heads. She's in a bad way and on A-biotics as susceptible to pneumonia.  Seasonal Joy!

Ug, tried a 'gentle' workout on the turbo tonight to see if in fact I was ill or not. I think barely scraping through the warm-up certainly confirms something is up, although gulping down freezing cold air whilst still sweating profusely possibly just confused my RPE a bit!

Or... it's just occurring to me, do fluid trainers get harder in freezing cold garage conditions? 😂

Edit: apologies, should have read the last two posts, I clearly have nothing to complain about it in the scheme of things. Get well soon gents.
