I've been trying to buy a Brompton for the last 3 months and every single time I have phoned up for one on Gumtree, I have had to leave a "free text" which not one single time has the call been returned, same deal with email.

I guess they have a generic phone number not the actual persons number, but how does it work when you try and sell something.....and NEVER return the effing call. Bored of that game.

The only time anyone has actually come back to me was he was "in hospital, just send me the money and the bike will be dispatched" um, yeah, sure I'll send a couple of grand to a bank account.

Has anyone successfully bought anything off Gumtree ????

Sean

I've bought & sold a few things on Gumtree, which I like because it can be very local. Yes, some vendors don't reply when the article has been already sold.

Why not buy a Mezzo D9 instead? I have one for sale, hardly used, the very one shown on the Gadget Show a couple of years ago. I just don't need a folder now.

I've got a Brompton on eBay if you're after one. Never worked Gumtree out either 🙂

Have used Gumtree for buying and selling and just like Ebay there are some muppets on there and many who do not delete items after they have sold them or just don't reply but on a positive note have not had to deal with fees, postage issues or complaints of not being as described so it works for me.

My one experience of Gumtree was positive - bought a Concept2 off a guy locally, went round his house to check it out then paid cash. There are no eBay/PayPal fees so both parties get a better deal.

Stuff seems to move pretty quickly on Gumtree - you're unlikely to get replies unless the item has been posted or reposted within the last hour. When I was shopping for a cheap motor cars were being listed and selling within a few minutes.
