In 1977, jubilee year. The BBC, Top of the Pops Had Rod Stewart as No 1 when in fact the Sex Pistol's God save the Queen was the biggest selling record at the time. Obviously wasn't PC.

Um, you've only just become aware of this? How about Massive Attack, Wings, The Kinks, Gang Of Four, Blondie...
The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there.

Lizzie didn't want that, but wanted to knight Savile and Rolf for some reason.

Yes, I remember getting to no1 on totp and they just glossed straight over the sex pistols and played something else.
Massive Attack? Yes I've got the album somewhere as they got renamed to Massive as it was GulfWar1 - not the BBCs fault, record company iirc.

The BBC tells us what the powers that be want it to tell us. Worse now than ever.

@tymbian I am assuming you are fairly young to have only become aware of this. A BBC presenter lost his job when the Pistols used the F word on his show. Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax was banned too, too raunchy ! Given the weekly rubbish that was Pan's People on TOTP Frankie was a very welcome change. As a 14yr old it was all very cutting edge at the time, all looks quite tame now.

As a fourteen year old, I preferred Pans People!

Obviously I now know this was wrong of me. 😳

Yes quite young (49)...I was aware of Frankie, pistols etc being banned, same as life of Brian..it just makes me so f.ing cross. BBC = tax payers money. Makes me cross also...the Police and the Hillsborough disaster, all these celeb Kiddie fiddlers ( they need there arms and legs cutting off, thus 1400 abused children news. Then the press focus on a story about a sick boy being taken from hospital by his parents and all of a sudden 1400 cases are forgotten about.
I could go on.

A bit late in the day to discover this, but hey.

In my book it is not as bad as the likes of Wal-Mart effectively censoring music by refusing to stock some rap artists whilst selling guns to rednecks on the other hand.

Plus ca change.

you should probably go and ride a bike. Analysing the annoying bits of the media for the last 40 years is probably just going to make you more angry

It goes on and all the depraved & immoral shite goes on with it. There are many Organisations and people that go on also but aren't at all deserving.

...and on and on. Yes it was all the BBCs fault.

At least we don't have Mary Whitehouse and her Shining Path. Oh wait, that was the Peruvian Communist Party wasn't it? Still, these facists and commies are all the same really. Killjoys the lot of 'em.

It was actually quite funny back then. And I think we're over it.

Is watching old TOTP episodes is a very "punk" thing to do?

'God save the Queen, she ain't no human being'

Crazy fools almost sound like David Icke, then again, it seems they knew about Jimmy Savile way back...

which makes you wonder, who vetted Savile? Mi5?

In the words of Johnny Rotten: 'Anger is an energy'

and a darn sight more constructive than fear...

there's only one of them talking.. and he sounds exactly like John Lydon, nothing like David Icke and we ALL knew about Savile.
Check the Luis Theroux programme from a few years back.

Is this the same BBC that is currently acting as NATO's propaganda channel in taking us into a war with Russia?

I really can't understand why you're getting all bent out of shape over this, it was thirty seven years ago, FFS! That's a whole lifetime for a great many people.
The BBC were continually under pressure from reactionary individuals like Mary Whitehouse and Lord Longford, and even one of their own DJ's, in the case of Frankie's Relax.
And comparing the censorship of a few pop songs with the abuse of children and the sick boy is so far out of proportion I don't know where to start.
I suggest you channel your (self)righteous indignation into actually doing something positive, like maybe doing some charity work for sick children, instead of snivelling and whining on a cycling forum!
And breathe.

Alright smartypants, I meant more along the lines of 'she ain't no human being':

[img] [/img]

[b]But don't worry about the non corporate BBC, it's in the safe hands of an HSBC executive (also linked to Pepsico), who just happened to be chair of the group risk committee when HSBC were fined $1.9billion for Money Laundering.

Good choice Camoron, Lizzie must be proud

It was Bill Grundy as I recall...

But back to the original point, the BBC has a proven history of this sort of thing so why should we regard it as being impartial and independent when it is neither?

Well clearly as a national body it exists as a mouthpiece for the establishment to subdue and control the masses. Whereas the free press... oh wait!

Christ, we're talking about bloody pop records, not impartiality in news reporting!
And they've never banned Lou Reed's 'Walk On The Wild Side', to my knowledge.

They refused to play "ding dong the whitch is dead" too.

Massive Attack? Yes I've got the album somewhere as they got renamed to Massive as it was GulfWar1 - not the BBCs fault, record company iirc.

Other noteable one, Jimmy Eat World dropped "Bleed Ammerican", which was odd as I always assumed it was said as a positive thing i.e. "if you cut me I'd bleed (insert thing your pasionate about)".

Less noteably, A Hi-fi Serious wasn't changed despite being released in 2001 and 'pre-empting' planes being used in Terrorist attacks and "bombs in sports bags" on the London Underground.

Of course the BBC isn't impartial. It represents the values of the British people i.e. Democracy = Good. I don't really see what is wrong with this as it never pretends to be otherwise.

To say that its the mouth piece of Nato is staggeringly ignorant. Go to China (or indeed Russia) and see what the standard of news reporting is like there.

It's not perfect but its a damm site more reliable than the majority of the worlds other media outlets.

My, they have been busy...

http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/banned.html

But it's the dumbed down programming and the jungle drumming news which are the real issues.

+1

If you think the BBC's bad, try and spend 5 minutes watchig ITV or SKY news without trying to gauge your eyes out with a rusty spoon.

They've all adopted the "Day Today" model. Without the entertainment value.
