He always was and always will be my favourite rally driver. he was always special to watch and seemed to put so much thought and effort in to what he did. I also remember watch the rally GB when he got his title and how happy he was afterwards.

I went to watch my first rally in 1980 so witnessed the birth and death of Group B. We all wished that we had a driver who could compete properly at championship level. Then along came Burns and McRae - both fantastic champions - both with different styles.
Both lost prematurely.

Indeed very sad, also saw him win the title at Margam park in 2001, he seemed such a down to earth nice guy, such a shame.

Being a Scot i always leaned more towards McRae. But Richard always came over as an open, decent and passionate guy. RIP.

Richard Burns was a great driver, up there with ari vatanen, roger clark and tony pond in my opinion. I ordered a tee shirt from the website the other week but they've sold out temporarily. My 'old car' in the garage is a 1973 escort mexico so I do love my rallying 8)

On. My 18th birthday I attended my best friend's funeral. He died, aged 17, from a brain tumour.

I grew up near Banbury, home of the invincible Prodrive.

I'll put my hand in my pocket for the RB Foundation.

I was surprised at the lack of coverage his untimely death got in the media, he almost slipped away unnoticed. He deserved a lot more recognition for his achievements

A footballerist crashing a supercar gets more coverage

A really passionate driver, he seemed a extremely decent chap too

R.I.P.

He died more or less the same day George Best finally drank himself to death and the news was flooded with that.

Very sad. What a talent. What a nice guy.

I remember when he was a guest early on the 'revamped' Top Gear (2001-ish?) -to give him an idea of what it was like watching a rally, they made him stand outside the back in the cold & dark and then threw some gravel at him. ๐Ÿ˜†

Seemed like a decent sport.

Met him when he was doing the Asian championship he was very shy and not a great communicator, then through a mutual friend met him about 3 years later and he remembered me which was nice and he said sorry for being a bit grumpy. IMO a far better driver than McCrae due to te fact he could temper his driving. His Welsh drive in the fog is the stuff of legend.

Very sad indeed. It all seemed so quick. One minute he was top of the world, next minute he'd gone ๐Ÿ™
