I went to look at. Tourneo Connect Grand today. The demo car was [s]poo metallic brown[/s] copper.
What a brilliant car.
But by heck it is ugly.
Would you?
(And what's the petrol 1.5 ecoboost like for mpg and service cost?)
Edit: evidence

Many cars on the road are ugly....imo.

Anything by dacia , anything by skoda , anything by vauxhall , anything by chevrolet and any people carrier

How ever this can be offset by its practicality, there for that tourneo is far superior to a fabia or a disastra.

I love my ugly cars , hiding under the tailgate getting change , slot full bikes in the boot and drive off. Throw lots of shit in take it to the tip , throw seats up and take 4 mates somewhere....

We test drove a Skoda Roomster Scout...during the test drive we stopped, got out, looked at the car and thought we just couldn't do it. 😳

Didn't help the salesman (Skoda dealer) describing them as 'popemobiles' adding 'they're not popular sellers' 🙄

I don't consider either of those to be ugly cars, neither is the Tourneo, which is just a plain utilitarian vehicle.
I don't think this is ugly, either:
[img] [/img]
I don't think this Vauxhall people-carrier is particular ugly:

I'd describe that as "functionally designed" or "purposeful".

Half of STW would own an uglipla if it didn't have a face that would curdle milk.

I bought a couple, in my opinion. Fiat Coupe, Impreza WRX wagon. You can't see the outside (much) when you're sitting in it.

Oh, please give over with your self righteousness.

Clothes are just for covering your body

Houses are just a roof over your head

Etc...

Shock horror, nice looking things give people pleasure in whichever way they see fit.

Nope the windscreen on that vx is horrible , yellow is not a colour for a car and they stopped designing that skoda at the screen scutttle , the front end is horrible.

At least the people carrier isnt trying to be "fast"

We've got a Doblo, the most butt ugly car ever! It's so ugly I takes me want to weep when I look at it, even Jesus says it's gopping! Elvis left the building when he looked at it...
But.. It'll carry two sea kayaks on the roof, two bikes, kayaking kit, bike kit, four dogs, two big tents, all the camping kit, a camping fridge/freezer, cooker and gas bottle, pots and pans and us and our shit, and do 45mpg all day?
I'd buy another tomorrow..

We've got a Doblo too.
I actually think it looks great, but I realise I'm pretty much alone in that opinion.
One of these, the , er, good looking version.

🙂
Edit - Great minds Khani, great minds........

So, yes, ugly cars are great.

But not poo brown ones.
Ever.

In the eye of the beholder and all that.

I like the Roomster, has some charm.

The Rodius is just offensive, just wrong.

Torneo? Utilitarian. A bit too much going on but basic shape ok and the lines flow. Very interested in how it drives (what sort of suspension does it have?) Could be a viable alternative to the Caddy Maxi next time round.

Practical vehicles rock

45mpg all day

People say things like this.. but are there any cars that will get a certain economy figure in the morning, but not in the afternoon?

I didn't think Vauxhall had an 'ugly' car in their current/outgoing range? Even the facelifted Agila wasn't too bad.

New Ford Transit though, I think thats going to take a while to grow on me. Its got a huge shapeless front with a gopping big grill and wierd squiffy headlights.

[img] [/img]

I like the Honda Ionized brown, we were shopping for a red one but saw a brown one, I liked, wife wouldn't even consider it. Dealer mentioned how unpopular they are and how much value it knocks off on the forecourt 🙂

I don't get Ford's current obsession with their 'gaping mouth' corporate grille - it makes most of their range look a bit odd at best.

I might buy a butt ugly car for practicality if it was 2nd hand, I'd never buy one new, there's just no need for that sort of crazy. Unless you want to start minicabbing, then that Tourneo is perfect.

I like how I'm the third Doblo owner to congregate on the thread about ugly cars. My Doblo has an honest charm, it is what it is and makes no attempt to be anything it isn't. The Tourneo has that same appeal, there is style in doing what you want and not being worried about what other's think.

I'd love to have a go in one of them Tourneo's for comparison, if they steer similar to a Focus, and more power could be extracted from the 1.0 ecoboost, it would be a winner for me !

yes. not particularly that car, but I do just buy a car to do a job, ie not to admire/show off in or gain approval. did buy a schoolboy flame in recent years but got all precious over it, so was potentially life-sucking. Luckily (?) it was soon beaten into scrap by other road users.

Like the Tourneo and it's practicalities, kind of considering one when my current cars expires. That said, it passed it's MOT today so it has a stay of execution.

Yes, the ugly car is outside being all French and incredibly practical. The missus didn't like it to begin with, I did. Now though I want something with more "Powerrrrrrr" as it's a bit of a slug.

I've just bought a Skoda Octavia VRS.
It does look pretty dull but it's a lovely drive.
First time I've really bought a car where I was a bit nonplussed about the looks.

i must admit getting changed under the tailgate is an added bonus id never considered before i had on-, then im in a car park wanting to disrobe after a muddy ride in the rain, and its extra awesome

my mate insists on driving us to races in his audi, its a ballache mounting teh bikes on the rack, getting the seats covered in sheets etc etc

zafira- slide back the seats, chuck in the bikes and away we go!

Those Ssangyongs... ...did the designer just start with an existing silhouette and add random bits?

Multiplas are boggin' as well.

I like that Tourneo actually, looks good for what it is.

Now this, this is ugly:

[img] [/img]

Puts me in mind of this guy:

[img] [/img]

Don't care what it's kitted out with, it's an abomination. How I've managed to see more of these kicking about than Avantimes I'll never know...

Thing is OP a Tourneo isn't really a car, it's a Van adapted to be a really big car. Surely it's what you buy when a Galaxy is too small and your vehicular needs are way more functional than aesthetic...

Looks practical more than ugly. The colour warmly reminds me of cough syrup my mum used to give me. I bought a CRV as a second practical car, it's quite ugly but very practical.

Mrs_oab is putting foot down, no Tourneo Connect or VW Maxi Life or Doblo on the grounds of being ugly. 🙁

Equivalent full size people carriers are just silly money newer than we have.

So, Verso and Zafira Tourer are being looked at 🙁

I bought a FUGLY car. TBH it was great

[img] [/img]

although my third Subaru is a very capable car I utterly miss the Xsara Picasso. Some people complain its uncomfy on long drives (err I drove it to Germany and back), utterly practical, cheap as chips (I paid £1600 for a 07!) and I never had breakdown cover on it. I know I didn't need it.

I have one of these beauties:

[img] [/img]

But with added scrapes down both sides. I love it - best car I've ever owned. I drove a fairly new Audi A4 on holiday and I would genuinely rather have the Berlingo. The A4 felt really cramped in comparison.

Re the OP I think it looks quite nice for a practical car.

Yup, I bought a Kia Soul, for running costs, service costs and warranty. It's ugly, it's average and it's acceptable.... but I am happy with my decision 🙂

GF is on her second C3 Picasso, i hate it. Babba to drive (like being in a high chair with a glass bubble on your head), but compact, very practical & a surprisingly capacious rear end, much like the person that drives it.

Some rate those but I test drove one and hated it - the Roomster I then tried felt so much better that I was sold - plus exactly what I wanted. Decided not buying it for how it looked was a bit silly though I think they look a lot better than many other similar (shortish with good space) cars.

any Mini that's not a normal Mini fits the bill.

Its like they don't want to sell anymore of them but people keep buying them any way.

Mini Production Guy: We can't keep up with demand we need to do something to slow down sales, can you make the car less attractive

Designer: How about this

[img] [/img]

Production Guy: Nope not ugly enough

Designer: Okay, this then

[img] [/img]

Production Guy: Top marks for effort, that really does look ridiculous but people are still buying them.

Designer: Okay, I really went to town on this one, I took the original mini and just hit enlarge on the photocopier then drew the ugliest grill I could think of.

[img] [/img]

Production guy: Uggh, I just swallowed a little bit of sick. I mean even calling it a Mini, that just daft no one will buy that. Oh wait, fat mothers absolutely love them.

Designer: Right I drew this one night after going a bit mad on the Special K

[img] [/img]

Ha ha, thats a joke right, surely no one would buy that!

richmtb - nice

In answer to the original question, no. Will not buy a butt ugly car at the moment, can't face thinking about a people carrier or anything similar. Vans are cool, and I'd like one as my next car

(I should highlight that I ran a Vauxhall Signum for the best part of a year and that probably counts. It was the 3 litre V6 diesel one in the best spec though)

There are uglier cars (I think) but it's obviously that it's had the wrong front hacked onto the body, the back's not much better.

But it drives well, it's well made and it was stupid cheap for what it is / does.

I still can't get over that Kia (R)Odious, there are no good angles to view it unless it's a moonless night. It even out-uglies a Multipla.

And Jaguars of late too...they seem clumsily styled and devoid of the grace of Jags of old, which is odd considering they're styled by the same bloke to does Aston Martins. Maybe he's not very good at doing more than two doors? I've seen renderings of the new 4 door Aston and it's awful, so I reckon that's it.

I remember Peugeots used to look svelte and taut when Pinninfarina did them, now they look bloated and dumpy...And Audis, once upon a time they were nicely understated and the profile did all the talking (original A4 and A8), but something went wrong along the way and they've become fussy. The obsession with ridiculously bright bluish lights hasn't helped either.

Cheap as chips. Revs to 10k. Goes like it is late for the afterlife.

Really damn ugly, and also made of tin foil and milk bottles.
