I'm tempted to grab my computer and walk or bike out into the forest for a day's work, instead of being sat at home. I think I'd need to set up a tarp, get one of those beach chairs that sit on the ground, and some spare batteries for my phone and laptop. Some really thick clothes required at this time of year though. The limiting factor would be being able to keep my fingers warm enough to type.

Anyone considered this? 🙂

I managed to get a WiFi signal as far as my summer house (shed in the garden), but the temptation to doze off in the warmth was too much.

If I find myself in the woods without my bike, then my life has gone wrong.

I'm out in the shed (summer house) all the time. I've boosted the wifi by having one of the mesh discs piggy back off a powerline adapter to up the throughput !

I've also worked from our caravan, in North Wales, then whilst in the passenger seat of a car on the way to Anglesey to watch the Red Arrows practice, then sat on a deck chair in the middle of a field whilst we waited for the display to start.

You could get at least a few hours work - my laptop will run for about 6 hours on battery. It is just a bit cold.

You might be able to pick up a beach or event shelter from Decathlon - that will keep the wind off, we sat in one watching GT Racing at Oulton park when it was hissing down.

There's free 1gb broadband in a quiet corner of the village where we are staying right now. The community broadband guys set up a hub for people to try it.

Are you just wanting the ultimate background for a Zoom meeting?

Certainly beats a bookcase..

Not sure you can knock one out in the woods, might get arrested. Best stay at home.

I’ve done it during the summer, not sure I’d want to risk it at this time of year.

Go and sit in a cold woodland where you'll struggle for internet connection for pornhub, I mean AWS, vs sitting a warm house with a kettle downstairs and a proper bog? Where do I sign up?!

I've gone for a spot of mild desking in the past - usually a picnic table when the weather's benign. At the moment I use a friend's field / hut. Decent views and enough shelter for bad weather. Usually do more emailing / reading / thinking / rough planning than writing paperwork. Still mostly working in the house but somedays it's nice to be able to change location.

BBC had an article the other day about pubs offering people socially distanced workspaces. Basically people wanting to take their laptops to a different four walls. I'd be well up for that

Try it in your back yard first. Every time I've tried to use a laptop in sunlight the display has been impossible to see.

Molly- Garth y Gwaelod Inn are doing pub-office space. WiFi, sandwich, drink and warmth. Worth a look?

I have tried loads to work outside, either in the garden or further afield. the biggest problems have been proper old school. When it is even slightly breezy it is a total PITA. And My screen cannot compete with sunlight so I have to be in a shady spot. Perhaps not the best at this time of year.

Maybe set up a tent in the back garden if you have one and work in that for a change from four walls.i used to have an old ex army canvas tent and that was dark inside and could be quite nice for a change.

I’ve been working in the woods for the last few weeks. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be; wet, cold and I got swarmed and stung by hornets 20’ up an oak tree this week!
If I could do my job from home I think I’d quite like to...

I have a lot of friends that worked from a drop zone over summer, mainly in caravans. Fitting their jumping in around meetings was apparently difficult, but it did mean they got a lot more skydiving in than us other people.

If you keep a log of your treeific work then maybe you can use it as leaferage and oakfully your boss won't give you the brush off and stick to his word and yewl be at home.

Those little shelters are brilliant. (As Fossy post) really cuts out the wind really well with the curved sides.

Sunlight wouldn't be a problem, that's what the tarp is for. Plus trees.
