I've had enough of busting my hump to pay for my bosses next Ferrari (he has 3 now!), so have decided to leave my job and start out on my own.

Any success stories to tell me? Reassure me!

went freelance in 2005, have never looked back.

Clients gained through word of mouth.
Always have a can do attitude.
Build up a 6m cash cushion
Dont sweat the lean times too much, just before it gets the darkest, the sun always seems to rise.

Welcome to the roller-coaster. Sometimes its absolutely ****ing brilliant, sometimes you've your head in your hands, weeping (banking crashes, clients going bust oweing you thousands, that type of thing)

I said I wouldn't do it again after I lost everything but the clothes I was stood up in the last economic shit-storm, but after a few years of (boring, coasting) employment, I have, and I'm absolutely loving it again.

Just go in with your eyes wide open. Getting yourself established is bloody hard work! Worth it though.

Good luck!!!

This is so true, and already true in my current role.
