Skirting boards, floorboard edging and beading.

I've got a heat gun - is this the best method?

Heat gun, patience and New sharp scrapers. Make a massive difference to the finish after stripping, really reduces the amount of sanding to be done after. Worth the £10 for a few new ones.

wait for the warmer weather and lighter evenings?

[edit for a sensible answer]

ime, it's easier to pull them off the wall and do the stripping as you can work outdoors at a sensible height.

Mostly though it was quicker and easier to just replace them altogether, even complex victorian mouldings aren't that expensive per metre.

I assume you'll be decorating the walls afterwards so if there's any plaster damage you can patch it beforehand.

take them off and strip them with caustic.
dont replace with new. modern pine is terrible quality compared to old victorian douglas fir/pitch pine

Our neighbour tried taking the picture rails down to strip them. Ended up replastering 2 rooms.
I've left mine in place and repainted them. 🙂
