We are needing new windows and doors on a 3 bed modern semi. White uPVC seems the popular choice for other houses in the street. The current alu framed ones are 30 or 40 years old and are done - getting draughty in places, hinges failing etc.
Seems advice is to avoid like a plague the liikes of Everest, Safestyle, Anglian etc and get quotes from local companies.
Any suggestion for companies to contact in the Glasgow or East Dunbartonshire area.
I am not near you but am changing windows. Upgrade to the best glass, biggest that will fit in the frame. One of my windows is 40 mm, others 32mm. The air gap is free so get the best. Also supervise the fitting, make sure they go in true. May sound obvious my builder said hed done 100s...mounted frames without glass...glass came and didnt fit, frame was slightly bowed due to side pressure. I went with upvc to match interior wood.
Oh...just had a local independent round to quote for our full house doing. Rehau is the window system he fits. For doors he has given a choice of door-stop-doors, Distinctiondoors, solidor or Rockdoor (they are in price order). Seemed a genuine bloke, two man band, local and has been fitting windows for 25 years! Will see what he quotes! Following this thread with interest especially for thoughts on Rehau or the door companies mentioned.
We used Bryant and Cairns quite a few years ago for a conservatory build. Zero complaints from us throughout. House is now sold but it still looks great.
Can't be sure how relevant this is as they are an Edinburgh based company, but they may cover the whole central belt? (we are in the Borders)
It’s worth noting that warranties are more likely to be honoured when going with a big firm, rather than with a local independent fitter, who may not be contactable a few years down the line.

Checked Rehau - their website has three fitting companies they use in the Glasgow area. One pretty local. Worth a look, thanks.
Not got the hang of the quoting in the new forum yest.

Find a good local independent that fits a decent brand of windows, I met an owner of a window firm while doing an inventory check on leaving a rental, he was there to price up the flat as part of renovating after us leaving, did a bit of research on the firm and the windows they fitted (platinum NRG) and got them to fit triple glazing in my new place.
i don't think I could have a 'salesman' in my house doing the hard sell with all the 'today only' and 'let me ring my boss' crap.
