It was free and actually gets a reception unlike my iPhone. Prefer iPhone though.

Supposed to be pretty good following the recent update.

I'll ask a mate who has one. Though it'd seem that Endomondo is out for it and that's well regarded on Android et all.

Yup, I use Endomondo, although it seems to be a bit flaky at the moment when it comes to uploading your rides online, although hopefully that'll be sorted in an update!

As for the other question, I'm still looking for one!

Said mate got back to me and suggested RunKeeper, which is another well-regarded app in Android circles.

The Android version of the p universe thing (which I've never heard of) is Google Sky Maps. Maybe there's a Bing-y version?

Nowt wrong with a windows phone. IMO it's already as good as the iphone except for number of apps available and even better you can actually use it as a phone as it has a decent reception. Iphone better for apps though.
Then again the Galaxy S II running android is probably the best of the lot.

Doesn't that Galaxy have terrible battery life?

Erm the reception on my iPhone is great.
I had bars and made calls at SITS, while my mate's 'droid had nothing.
The benefit of having a large external aerial perhaps?

Not tested the Galaxy 2 battery but have played with the phone for a few hours and it's mega.

The reception thing with the iphone is I think a bit hit and miss but I think it's more miss? I've had to send a few back in work and revert back to blackberries as the users were complaining of no reception, which when you need to use it for business calls and you can't probably gets a bit annoying. I think a fair part of it is also the network my findings for the iphone is that Voda is better for reception than Orange.

I called Apple about it who told me to put the phone in a glass to improve reception!! I kid you not!!

Just like the issues in the US were down to AT&T's cruddy coverage. The only time I can't get reception on mine is when there's no tower nearby and no signal to be had, like Avebury and Savernake Forest, or a tower goes down, like the two local ones do sometimes. I work in a large, steel clad industrial building and while 3G is a bit hit or miss, I always get a usable signal. Orange around my way, North Wilts, is really patchy, a mate has an old K750i I gave him with an Orange sim in, and he said that with the T-Mobile merger he might actually get a signal most of the time instead of some of the time. My old N95 was very unpredictable on O2, but both my iPhones have been fine.
