I've just done a fresh install of Windows 7, including formatting the SSD it's going on during the install. If I right click on the C: drive, it tells me I've used 37.4gb of space. If I highlight and right click the files on the C: drive it tells me they take up 12.9gb (including hidden files).

Now I'd expect a bit of discrepancy, but that's huge! And on a fresh install too, I've not even installed any updates. Is this normal? Or am I doing something silly?

You're doing something wrong by the sounds of it.

When you did the install of Windows did you go into the advanced setup and format the drive in there before installing?

Yup, I deleted the partition, created a new one then formatted it. The installer showed 111gb free space.

Hmm, I had an 11gb hibernation file, I've turned that off. I also have a 16gb (I have 16gb RAM) pagefile er, file. Which actually makes it around about right.

Do I need a 16gb pagefile is the next question!
