How do I go about boosting the signal from a router so it can be received in a caravan out in a garden about 100 yds from the house.

I tried a few and unfortunately they were all pretty crap to be honest.

The TP-LINK ones work well for me, but they travel through the internal electric circuits in a building so won't work so well to get to your caravan!

You can get boosters with diversity aerials, and higher gain aerial to plug in Deal extreme had a few.
