We had a power cut yesterday and obviously the router etc went off. When it came back on (Linksys) the power light was flashing. Fiddling with power supplies it's back on but the network is working fine but there is no internet connection. I can only connec directly through the modem with wifi turned off.

Any thoughts from the collective?

you can connect if cabled from the PC to the router?

probably lost your password when the power was cut. log on to the PC.. click wireless connection.. click connect...and you'll probably be prompted for a ... oh what do the call it... anyway the wireless security code.

You should have a sync light somewhere on the router. Is it lit up?

Sync light on the modem is on. All the right lights come on on the router when plugged in etc, just won't connect. At the moment this laptop is showing a full connection to the router but I am on the www via cable to the modem. The router has been dicky lately with having to change channel and reset password. I wonder if it's finally died.

Ah, separate modem & router. Do you still have the modem connected to the router ;o)

Not at the moment. If I connect ethernet from modem to router then cable to laptop it doesn't work. Bypassing router works using cable.

Can see the routers admin pages over the wifi?
What does the connection page say?
Do you know the IP address of the modem?

Yep, the status page isn't showing an IP/ gateway or subnet mask.

I was wondering about returning it to factory defaults and upgrading the firmware. Then saying sod it and going to get a new one.

Some modems lock to one MAC address. If it's accepting the computer directly then it might not work for the router. Plug the router into the modem, restart the modem, then restart the router. See if that flies.

HTH.

Spud... it sounds like it's a router issue, but try doing what Gordy suggests and see how that work.

Oh, and I have a spare WiFi access point at home you can borrow tonight to get you going if you need one...

Tried that and no luck. Network strenght is full but no www. The send/ receive lights don't flash on the modem when connected to the router.

Cheers Nick I might well do that. Will drop you a line. Was wondering about getting one of the Mac Airport routers but they're 2.5 times the price of a new linksys!

We're back!!!! Firmware upgrade and default restore seem to have done the trick. Thanks all!
