[Closed] Why would this Citroen be HPIed as having colour change when seller says not❓
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202003118290161?atmobcid=soc4
My son's hunt for a car continues.
This is looking possible but HPI says colour change from green to current red. Never even seen one of these in green?!
Reputable dealer with excellent reviews says it hasn't been changed. Not actually looked at car yet.
Anyone come across something like this?
They come in a really awful light green colour and a sort of teal colour too (from google images). I have no real idea, but could it just be an admin error on the original colour?
Make sure the VIN number matches the log book.
Good lord. First the X1 and now this.
Could have had a or have a vinyl wrap. Still needs to be changed on the V5.
To add. If it has had or has a wrap. Check for damage if done badly. Cut marks on paint, loose trim.
years ago when i looked at a car the HPI check came back with finance still on it, passed info onto seller. He was livid as he bought the car on finance to get better deal and paid balance off within a a month, 3yrs later when he is selling to my still flagged as financed. He got a letter from finance co to confirm they have no interest in car.
So HPI checks can be a bit shit at times
Thing is, if it has a wrap, then it will still be on it so at least (as it hasn't been changed back to green) so I'll be able to spot that with some close-up inspection no doubt. 👓

I know,I know. At least this thing practically runs on vapour compared to his current car.
I'm all car-ed out though tbh.😐
EDIT: Oh, cheers bruneep and guys.
Hoping it's a glitch but will definitely check VIN against V5 doc etc.
I'd be very surprised if it's wrapped as it stands - I've not seen a wrap done into the door shuts, let alone going around the hinges. Could have been wrapped when new as a promotional car for something, then reverted to red when they'd done with it, though.
Administrative error (either HPI's part or dealer who initially sold it put the details down wrongly when first registering it, then changed it with DVLA) would seem more likely to me
My Grey Honda said blue on the DVLA paperwork.
I bought it at 100k ... I had all the paperwork from new saying grey but DVLA insisted it was blue.
I queried it and they told me they could alter it for a charge and then mark it as having a colour change.
Admin error .. DVLA are crap.
The Cactus was never available in green, so, as already said, could have had a wrap at some point.
On photo no.9 you can see the chassis 'plate' (sticker) on the B pillar. On the right hand side of that will be a three letter colour code that it was built with, you could always phone the seller to get that code.
For a red Cactus it'll either be KKN 'Sport Red', or ERK 'Jelly Berry' which is darker.
EDIT: I work at Citroen btw.

You're right, the green ones are "hello yellow" apparently:

Thank you so much matey!👍
Any known issues I should look for on this model/engine that you might know of?
Nothing to add except how do you get from a X1 to a C4 Cactus?
I'd have to refer you to my son on that one.😉

We see different Citroen models through the workshop fitted with that 1.6hdi engine & they are just having regular servicing. Nothing springs to mind as regards any particular issues though.
how do you get from a X1 to a C4
With a serious game of battleships.
Cheers Gary!
DVLA aren't perfect.
HPI can have their issues too.
It's clearly red. And?
Well, code on the plate checked out as Jellybean Red, thanks again Gary.👍 No sign of respray/ wrap.
Other oddity is it has,had 2 owners.... But both owners are the same woman. Not sure why that is?
Anyway, deposit left as it does seem like a decent car. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for the help guys, genuinely. This is a huge purchase for my son. As I'll be helping him with it as best I can, it's a huge purchase for me too. I've never spent more than 4k on a car ever.
Doesn't matter the niche question, someone on here usually knows the answer.
Thank goodness for STW.👍
I'd go with DVLA error, having recieved London parking tickets whilst in Scotland.
Turned out they had issued two number plates the same. Had to go to Thatcham to have the vehicle inspection. Thought it was cloning but nope, something to do with a private plate change.
I think a number plate change also adds an owner.
Without wanting to be a misery monger, have you considered how this might play out when he comes to sell it?
It'll be an old Citroen and worth 10p anyway?
More seriously, depends how long he keeps it. After a certain amount of depreciation who's going to check?
It's a funky looking thing, the plastic on the sides look ideal for supermarket carparks and the school run.
It happens all the time, it’s an inputting error that will have been at point of registration likely on the AFRL system. So it’s been flagged and changed, HPIog it as a change of colour. It has nothing to do with wraps or otherwise. Citroen have also had problems with this when I worked for them with colours like Mediterranean blue, or Icelandic green which if I remember were the other way round (green looked blue, blue looked green) I wouldn’t worry about it. The same owner showing as 2 owners but at different addresses is likely where the owner has moved and changed her address by filling out the yellow new keeper supplement! Again a common mistake, mainly by people who cannot read.
