Stupid stupid fire.

Turn the knob and it goes 'click' and the pilot light is lit, leave for a few seconds, release knob and the pilot light goes out before being able to turn on the gas! Stupid stupid thing.

Why is the pilot light going out and why won't it light?

Here is a picture of said 'fire':

Any way to light it in the meantime? If I take the front off and chuck a match in will I die?

Yeah, I'm not sure its technically a thermocouple but the metal prong must be heated, I'm sure it changes from dc to ac or something like that as I recall, not that it matters as it still needs replacing, please get a gas safe engineer to do though!

A gas safe engineer for a thermocouple? I thought there were easy to fit, besides, they are fail safe i.e get it wrong, it won't light.
