The question was, 'Why is there such a crap atmosphere on STW?'
I came up with a few ideas and voiced my opinion. Does it really bother me? No. I would rather spend my time chatting with the friendly folks about bikes and banter 🙂
The muck is a small price to pay for great info, occasional bit of good banter and some bargains on the classifieds.
If I was a total newbie, would I feel the same? I doubt it.

The people who run the site have made their views clear on many occaisions.
Perhaps those who disagree with them should go somewhere else, instead of repeatedly winding up the majority.
But of course this wouldn't give them the attention they crave so much.
Maybe a few big whacks with the ban stick would make this a nicer place for everyone.

Actually, I think that the more folk you meet off here, the better really. Ain't that what the forum's all about anyway, y'know, using it as a social networking site, for to meet up for bike rides/pints an ting?
I've probbly met over wunundred people off here, and almost all of them have bin lovely. And once you've met someone and got to know them a bit in Real Life™, then the 'banter' between youse becomes far easier and stuff's not so misinterpreted and that. It's often difficult to detect the 'tone of voice' in a post.
I think the key to good atmosphere on here is for folk to meet up as much as possible. I come on here cos I can chat to mates, have a laugh. For me personally, this forum just gets better as time goes on really.
Getting rid of tags would be a good, positive move
I like the tags. I write tags. Never rude or disparaging ones tho.

I'm talking rubbish, Elfin. I thought "Ernie" and typed "Elfin". I'm struggling for words to express my sorrow and dismay. Sorry, sorry, grovel... .
As for what it was like around 05, a bit like now but through Ford Focus ST orange tinted spectacles with "guest" mods randomly banning. I had trouble stringing a sentence together without offending someone and find things have calmed down somewhat both in moderation which is more consistent and responses which are less virulent.
This is all very encouraging.
