As per the title really.
I know the thread title, I type it in the search - results give everything with one or two words of the search - but not the exact thread title that I, remarkably, got right.
So, can someone explain why the search is so awful?
I get that I can use Google (that's how I found the thread in the end) but why have a search box if it doesn't bloody work? Just have a link to Google instead - maybe with a brief explanation as to why you cant provide a simple effective search function for your own forum?

I did, but it just gave a bunch of threads about coffee grinders....
There is an ipad out there on which it works perfectly.
I've been using Google to find threads for ages. No point in me stressing my laptop more than it already does whenever I open the site.

The issue I find with using Google to search is that the date looks like the result is in the last couple of years then you click on the link and its a 5+ year old thread 🙄
You think there's a reason writing a search engine that worked created one of the most successful tech companies ever? If it was easy even you'd be writing them!

The recent improvement, whereby it puts more info, therefore less info, in the results, was a step backwards, that’s for sure.
There were obviously forum users crying out for this though. Weren’t there?

We had Google embedded for a while, it was removed for exactly this reason.
A new search engine is on the cards but it's a little way down the line.

YES!! Why is that? Is it because it totally reindexed the forum in the last year and so thinks that historical threads ar5e only a year old?

Because the people who code the site are utterly useless.
Hope that's cleared that up for you.
The site is run on Wordpress and this forum is a Wordpress add-on module/plug-in rather than full blown forum software. It was chosen, so we've been told, as it integrates better with the rest of the site.
That's why it's used but it doesn't take away the fact it's one of the least feature laden forums around. In footballing terms it's in the Isthmian League rather than the Premier League.
