It is a derogitory term?
Yet it seems quite acceptable to label someone a Karen.
Ok boomer.
My wife gets well pissed with it. She's called Karen.
My wife gets well pissed with it.
She should speak to the manager about it.
I'm sure she would if she could! 😂
What's wrong with implying a little entitlemenr? At least it doesn't mean toilet or user of prostitutes.
Had to google this. Seems like dickhead would suffice. Maybe there was an American lady called Karen who was a weapons grade bellend and the term stuck. Basically blame Karen
Jerry?
Could you clarify on who says whether it's wrong or not please OP?
I have no idea of why this is wrong. I'm sure if it is there are a lot more names used on here that would have to be added to the list.
As a perjorative term I think it originated in the US where "Karen" is a more "posh" name than it is here. Signifying a pushy, entitled often bigoted middle class woman. I don't think it's survived its transatlantic journey too well as it is a more generic classless name here. One of the few examples of the US being more class conscious than the UK instead of the more usual reverse situation.
I have no idea what the whole Karen thing is about, does that make me a Boomer?
Never heard of it and I have my finger right on the pulses.
It's off a Nintendo advert, I thought.
Anyway, people in glass houses, Louise.
Karen's what?
#Catapostrophe
I'm 44 (and well cool) and have never heard any one get called 'a Karen'.
Apart from the 2 people I know called Karen.
Is Karen the new Louise?
I couldn't really care less where it came from, but the OP has got to be the wettest attempt at being PC I've seen in a long time - and I've seen some proper drivel.
One of the few examples of the US being more class conscious than the UK instead of the more usual reverse situation.
One problem with your thesis. It’s nothing to do with class.
I guess the name Karen might have different connotations in the US but the concept is of an overly-entitled middle-aged, usually white, woman.
I can see the humour, and it’s picking fun of entitlement, which is all great, but it’s very sexist IMHO.
It's 2020. If someone's offended by it then really it should be banned.
One problem with your thesis. It’s nothing to do with class
Thesis? 😄 5 mins Googling more like. Like a lot of memes it seems there are a dozen or more definitons (many including "middle class") and no one can agree exactly where and when it started. Except you perhaps? What is your thesis?
I’m aware of the whole Karen thing - it would be difficult not to be if you spend any time on Twitter. I was hoping there’d be a ground zero Karen somewhere, but it seems not. Anybody know?
Ok boomer.
Oi!
Far too much of a deep dive into it!
I have no problem with it. People like to give an individual face to certain personality tropes and certain names are stereotyped to fit.
Tarquin = generic public school posh young man
Norman = a bore off
Dave = generic bloke in the street
Sharon = "essex" girl
Etc, etc.
It’s 2020. If someone’s offended by it then really it should be banned.
No, it really shouldn't. Mildly offending someone isn't a crime. Stop trying to water everything down to the point where we won't even be able to do comedy soon.
"Karen' isn't a racist term, it's not mysoginistic, it's not homophobic, it's just a bloody term to describe a type of person. So what if some melt gets offended by it?
I think they were being sarcastic....
Tarquin = generic public school posh young man
Norman = a bore off

Wayne = Essex geez
Gary = Boy racer
You can't say "Joey" any more though.
Stop trying to water everything down to the point where we won’t even be able to do comedy soon.
It's the thin edge of the wedge.
You can’t say “Joey” any more though.
See also, Timmy.
What about 'Fritz'?
Do the MNPR lot still refer to Binners as a bit of a Susan?
I presume the easily offended are still ok with calling our PM Doris?
From my limited experience of Karens (two) they were a bit wiffy at primary school.
Can't imagine every being in the sack with someone call Karen.
Louise on the other hand......It might be dancing with the devil liable to bite your head off but it's going to be fun whilst it lasts.
Crumbs. What a thread.
I presume the easily offended are still ok with calling our PM Doris?
It's the tip of the iceberg.
I had to ask hubby what a Karen was. His reply - "we're living next door to one".
No further explanation needed. Except she's not middle class, just thinks she is.
The actual Karen I know, is one of the loveliest people you could possibly meet.
Ian = a void. A vacuum.
Did it not come from this?

Thesis? 😄 5 mins Googling more like.
I wasn’t being entirely serious. Sadly I’ve spent enough time on social to understand it’s an over entitled person who will demand to see the person in charge for a minion fault.
Load of bloody Hitlers on here.
Does a 'Karen' have to be female?
I guess the name Karen might have different connotations in the US but the concept is of an overly-entitled middle-aged, usually white, woman.
Pretty much. Because I get loads of US-based news articles via Flipboard, particularly ones about The Donald and BLM at the moment, Karen’s do crop up fairly frequently; I think Susan’s are the UK equivalent, the loud, pushy, usually White woman with a sense of entitlement big enough to have its own postcode and visible on Google Earth.
Does a ‘Karen’ have to be female?
Well, it’s not a name I’ve ever seen used by a Male. Although, having said that, I believe there might be a German Male name something like it.
Load of bloody Hitlers on here.
Low key brilliant comment.
One of the few examples of the US being more class conscious than the UK instead of the more usual reverse situation.
One problem with your thesis. It’s nothing to do with class.
the other problem is that the USA has a very firm class structure and a very healthy old boy network.
Possibly from Will & Grace where Karen was a very entitled rich white woman character.

The cougar in talladega nights was called karen.
An actual cougar.
Does a ‘Karen’ have to be female?
As an insult, probably.
As an annoying personality trait, no. It's a reference to the sort of know it all irritating person who insists on speaking to the manager.
Any reference to "does anyone have the CEO of ......... e-mail address?", or "I disagreed with ........ so I escalated it to the manager / CEO / ombudsman", "Brant, Brant, Brant" is a Karen.
My mate Kevved up his car, the Wally. He looks a right Dick in it. Cruises round town picking up Tracys and Sharons, he'll be seeing the doctor about his John Thomas if he's not careful. His girlfriend will throw a proper Benny if she ever finds out, they've got a kid together and he's a spotty little Herbert an' all.
Would it be inappropriate to post a picture of Karen Gillan?
Asking for a friend.

You know how people are happy to use pejorative terms right up until someone uses a pejorative term for them? It's like that. See also those who used the term snowflake but were outraged once people started to referring to them as Gammons or Boomers.
His girlfriend will throw a proper Benny if she ever finds out
You've got to be pretty old now to get where that reference comes from!
You’ve got to be pretty old now to get where that reference comes from!
Old enough to know that if you are going to chuck a Benny then you need to be aware that they only come in the one size option.
MASSIVE!
I’m just relieved I can still bandy the word Moron around. It’s all I have left in life.

Is Karen the new Louise?
From my own personal experience they are just as crazy, but in a different way. Less likely to stab you, more likely to dry tea bags on the radiator so they can be used again.
I hadn’t heard of this before seeing this on STW then this came up to. While having a conversation about correct-think for a section of people is debatable it seems that there is a more unpleasant aspect to it.
Do onto others as you would have done onto you

Am I still allowed to think about Keren from Bananarama?
Can we call her Fanny?
FFS OP, what a WOKE stain.
Am I still allowed to think about Keren from Bananarama?
I hope so, because I am as well now.
it seems that there is a more unpleasant aspect to it. Do onto others as you would have done onto you
You seemed to have missed the point. Mind you, it's a Spiked article, TBF to you, that is the point of Spiked
Shush.
I'm thinking of Keren from Bananarama
Simpler times

Why does the poster call her Keven?
If that's not shoddy handwriting my teenage years are written off.
Why does the poster call her Keven?
Why are you looking at the writing?
It was probably written with the wrong handed.
Less likely to stab you, more likely to dry tea bags on the radiator so they can be used again.
I'd narrowly prefer the former.
who will demand to see the person in charge for a minion fault.

Keren Woodward was always my favourite out of all the Banana Splits.
My wife is looking for a name change . Albeit , I have lived with her for 20 years now and I havent seen a knife fly towards me , although she dries the tea bags on the window sill. So, what name should she change to and delete Karen from her name 🙂
If she dries teabags on the windowsill, I'd carry on calling her Karen 🙄
Can we call her Fanny?
Depends where she keeps her phone
