Multiple pc's running various OS's with assorted browers but they're all falling over their collective arses at opening the Google home page. All the other websites work fine, I know, I've clicked on them all, even the mucky ones, (especially the mucky the ones).
Virus checkers and spyware are turning up zip.
The only guess I can make is that Google has just changed the page to include a Cookies opt in button. Perhaps your system doesn't like it?

Google are naughty boys for compatibility sometimes.
Here's my suggestion, just as an experiment. On a device running Windows and IE, check that in the advanced settings 'use http 1.1' is ticked. See if that helps.
Is it the same for google.co.uk and google.com?
Every other page in the world opens apart from anything with Google innit. It just sits there trying to open but fails 🙁
Gonna try unplugging the hub and attaching one direct to the router to see what happens.

I had this down here in Oz the other day at work. I didn't find a cure (apart from Bing), but all seemed normal the next day.
It started on a few last week and now know one can get it.

Have you overporned it? Sometimes even google needs a rest.
DNS problem? I've had random pages refuse to load in the past when there's been something funky going on at our ISP's end.

blokey here has had limited success flushing his dns but the same trick hasn't worked on the rest. I suspect the router is fudged after reading a similar story on bleepingcomputer

I used to use Opera as my browser, but it suddenly stopped loading Google.
Checking the Opera support pages did not give much help so I switched back to Chrome.
Just changed to our backup router/modem and it's doing the same.

Had it at home, on our old XP desktop.
My W7 laptop was fine, likewise Android devices.
Was ok after a few hours.
Very strange.
Home desktop doesnt like yahoo mail either. Not the basic mail page, that works fine, but when the Wife logs in she uses that stupid enhanced email thing & the pc just goes into overdrive, with the fan spinning away & running slower as a slow thing.
Is an nslookup on google.com returning correct ip?
Try typing in the IP directly, to eliminate DNS or localhosts problems:

It has now mysteriously started working again. I made three attempts to get through to BT Business without any luck. It started working about 5mins after i'd requested yet another call-back.
So, if you have this problem, in summary:
Do Nothing.
I now have this problem (it was working fine 5m ago).
PITA as I wanted to do some work on googledocs. Back to Wordpad!

So, if you have this problem, in summary:
Do Nothing.
Again, this points to a DNS record problem. The TTL for Google is 172800 seconds, or 48 hours.
As the cached values on each PC expire over that period, it will try and fetch the DNS record from your DNS server again, hence the PCs drop off one-by-one until the error is corrected at which point they all ping back into life.
All the DNS's were flushed at this end, even on the ones that don't Google as much but to no avail. I still reckon it was BT's fault.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying above. Flushing the DNS on client PCs or your local DNS server makes no difference if the DNS record upstream (i.e. your ISP) is incorrect, as you will simply keep fetching the incorrect DNS record again.
The quick test would have been to set one of the client PCs to use 8.8.8.8 as its DNS server, flush the DNS cache and see if it could suddenly resolve it.

Assuming that your PCs can get unrestricted access out onto the internet, yes it should be fine.
Just make sure to set it back to automatic or whatever it was before when you're finished.
8.8.8.8 is one of Google's own public DNS servers BTW, it's usually pretty reliable.
Apparently there was back log on the whole internet as GCHQ's servers were a bit busy recently. They've upgraded to the latest version of Windows 8 and installed the latest Service Pack for 'MS Filter Everything Pro ++' and things are working again now...
Although searching for the Labour Party Leader still comes up as a 404 Page Not Found error 😉
