Not that I'm going to 'share'* but just wondered why it occasionally is in red?

*I'd 'like' stuff if anyone is listening ๐Ÿ™‚

I expect "ongoing development", but I've no idea for sure.

I'm thinking that this is part of the new forum. It is 2012, isn't it?

Looks orange to me, maybe an aggressive peach but no way is it red.

I like to think of bearnecessities as an aggressive peach.

cantankerous kumquat

Late 60s psychedelic rock band, IIRC.

I just assumed it was red as some sort of warning not to share the particular member's posts.

There seem to be two versions of the sprite map in the CSS, a grey version stored locally and in the local stylesheet:

...and a version which addthis render as a base64 encoded image in the CSS which is orange/red. I'm going to guess that either AddThis periodically change their stlesheet and break the override or possibly that there's a bit of an A/B test thing going on and that we're all lab rats running through a maze.

Either way in the end I imagine we'll all have our brains dissected and pickled in formaldehyde.

Has anyone ever used that share button? What does it actually do? Maybe flashing red is its way of saying "please, use me!"

A 'like' button would be better. And maybe PM functionality like a real forum.

I've yet to find any compelling reason to use it, struggling to imagine any circumstance where I'd want to share something from here, nobody I know would give a toss, TBH. ๐Ÿ˜‰

bearnakedladies

Path A- 50% of users are slung this way to see if they do anything different to the 50% on path B. If one if more successful than the other i.e. a 0.2% greater volume of clicks on shares for path B then path B kills path A. Think of it like a gladiatorial battle - only the strongest survive.

what happens if, as seems likely in this case, it's a nil-nil draw?

What's the IT-geek world equivalent of a penalty shoot out?

Whichever one the boss likes best. You can always change it later and lie about it.
