You don't even see anyone as you leave: you just post your keys in a box at the exit (Based on 3 visits to Center Parcs on continent)

I'd doubt they'd check...what difference does it really make to them? Check-in is normally a busy time and if you're queued up with everyone else, I'd doubt they'd have time to complete bike-counting checks

could it be for insurance porpoises?
you tell them you have one bike, there is a break in and suddenly 3 are being claimed for?

I've no idea why they ask, they dont seem to check and they certainly dont check on the way out, I must say as an aside that the changing rooms at whinfell are much improved with heated floors and better cubicle layout! AND you dont need a £1 coin for the lockers!.
