[Closed] Why are my feet growing?

My feet have been a size 10 all of my adult like. Now, aged 39, they seem to have grown over the past 12 months to be a size 11.

I recently purchased a new pair of Innov8 trainers to replace an identical pair that are a couple of years old. Old ones were a 10, I had to buy an 11.

Is this normal? Am I becoming a Hobbit? Where will it end?

It's just that people are getting bigger, so sizes that were once big, are now smaller......or something.
Have you checked your nose and ears too?

Is it the arch flattening out as the ligaments stretch leading to the foot appearing to grow?

Maybe time to cut your toenails?

Shrinkflation ain't it!

Also, I've recently discovered that you can gain and lose weight in odd places... I've gone down 2 helmet sizes in our local karting centre by losing a couple of stone.

Exactly the same is happening to me. I was always a ten but over the past two years or so I'm now an eleven or sometimes even a twelve. I'm 51.

I blame the EU, or the Americans, or globalisation, or something. My size 10s suddenly became size 11s.

On the plus side I can still wear 34" jeans despite what the tape measure says.

I'd suggest TJ has got the correct answer.

Its happened to me starting say 2-3 years back (I'm 40 next weekend) and is not all that uncommon.

You may find a visit a podiatrist is needed.

I found a while ago, that when I had put on weight my feet went up a size and when I lost the weight, went back down again.

Googled this a couple of months ago heading to 60 apparently normal as feet flatten can be corrected with arch supports and exercise or for me now 2 sizes bigger than in my youth hence a wtf moment

I had the same in my late 20's, didn't notice it until it came to new riding shoes as all my trainers etc must have stretched slowly to fit but identical new ones were nowhere near!

I suspected either
1)

you're heavier and your feet are spreading out more with the greater load
coupled with the tendons/arches thing as I have very high arches despite over pronating.
2) I broke my arm 3x in quick succession so spent a lot of time with healing bones and wondered if there was a hormonal explanation with some part of the 'fix the bone' response being miss interpreted as 'grow' as I'm sure my legs grew a good half inch in the same time period.

This thing about feet "stretching" is actually a myth. What's happening is that the joints are *wearing* as you use them, and so your foot appears to be getting longer (stretching) but actually the bones are just getting further apart.

You may find you will start skipping soon and you'll need to replace your knees to cure it.

Good lubrication can help to prevent this.

Are we still discussing P-Jay's weight loss issues?

Apparently everything is getting smaller, size of mars bars, Toblerone and boxes of quality streets. Now its shoes. A size 11 now is actually a size 10 years ago.

Due to low atmospheric pressure I'd say

You get shorter as you get older which makes your feet appear bigger as they are closer. Shoe manufacturers compensate for this by marketing vanity-sized shoes. They brief shopkeepers to sell these re-labelled shoes to anyone with ear hair as they think it's kinder for customers to be under illusion that their feet growing than to face up to reality they've got more years behind them than in front of them. Or something.

Is there a chance the new pair (despite looking identical) may have used a new last and are thus a slightly different shape? Have the old pair stretched significantly and thus feel big compared to the new ones? What time of day did you try the new ones on (feet can swell during the day)? Sock thickness the same? Few obvious things to consider before you consign yourself to that fact your feet are mutating.

This for me, I have also found where I used to wear medium tshirts and shorts I am now a small.

I think womens mags are always complaining about varying sizes between brands, maybe its this?
