Just noticed a little bit of water pooled under the stop cock, before I go any further I am assuming the tape is my problem and not the water companies as it is inside the house?
Then any obvious things to check before I call a plumber?

Inside the house will be yours. Can you see exactly where it is dripping from? May be an easyish fix with an adjustable spanner or ptfe tape.
Might just be condensation from cold water coming into the house. Mine always has a little puddle but isn’t leaking.
The stop cock is your problem.
It might just be the gland needs nipping up.

I had this. There is a stopcock out in the street under a black iron cover, which Welsh Water own, the one inside the garage (we don't have a meter) is ours. As the one in the street was covered in muck and of an ancient type, the plumber couldn't shut it himself, so I had to arrange for a Welsh Water person to come and inspect the situation, then at a later appointment close it for a few mins so the plumber could replace our stopcock. Welsh Water didn't charge for this, but it all took a while to arrange.
Or freeze the pipe before the leaky stopcock.
If it doesn't leak when it's fully closed the gland probably just needs repacking. You might get away with just nipping up the nut but if it's already tight and still drips you don't want to be just tightening it more.
Turn the stopcock fully off, remove the gland nut, strip away the old packing and repack with PTFE tape. Replace the nut and that should do you.
And never turn a stopcock all the way on, leave it half a turn in. That way it's way easier to free up if it ever seizes up.
Thanks all, nipped the nut up and no joy. So stripped it down filled with ptfe tape and that seems to have worked.
