Definitely Britain's biggest idiot in my book. An absolutely proven and irrefutable track record for committing both crimes and misdemeanours ** - and the same old "I'm norra ba la really - jus misunderstu". Arse.

** No need to consider the behaviour of his half brother and cousin who are obviously stimulate the nature vs nurture debate - save that for another time.

Liverpool fan. Barton's 'challenge' on Alonso was little more than out and out assault. A reminder as to why this vile thug shoon't be in football, full stop. What if Alonso had been so badly injured, his career was ended? I'm all for a physical game, but violence like this has no place in a sporting contest.

Barton has had chance after chance. He has betrayed his club in the biggest possible way, by totally abusing their trust, support and loyalty in him.

I'm pleased to see that Shearer has not defended him at all. Barton is a disgrace. I hope Newcastle see fit to get rid of him.

I have always defended him to be honest, but after that I hope he never plays for us again. IMO it wasn't a sending off offence, would Gerrard of been sent of for the same tackle? I doubt it, but at that time in the game in that position its just a stupid thing to do...

paulosaxo, yes for once you may be better than us, but as we are currently having our worst season in 18 years most teams in the premier league are better than us so big deal! hardly something I'd be proud of, finishing 16th in the league!

RudeBoy, utter nonsense, assault my arse, his feet stayed on the floor, it wasn't high, it was just a bit rash, Garrards put in many many worse tackles than that

Well, I was going to say (in a Kevin Keegan style) "He's a not a bad lad really, he's just had a few knocks in his upbringing. He's a smashing fella undeneath it all - an arm round the shoulder and he'll be right"

But, in that case, he's a total twonking pillock.

Have to agree with Warton, it was a crap tackle, it was hardly anything to write home about though, that was common stuff 10 years ago, and one of the reasons I don't go to the football anymore, it's mainly gash

paulosoxo, hoping we don't go down with the mags 🙂

would Gerrard of been sent of for the same tackle?

Are you saying it was only because it was Barton that it was deemed bad enough to be sent off for?
It was savage and calculated and if Gerrard had committed it he would have been rightly dismissed and rightly castigated.
The fact that Barton did it, given his "previous" just makes him look more of an idiot and a lost cause.

No he wouldn't of been!

don't get me wrong it was a stupid, pintless tackle, and hes an idiot for putting it in, but lets be honest he got sent off because hes Joey Barton, and in a way he deserves to be sent off becuase of the stupidness of it, but many players get away with tackles like that week in week out.
lets not forget Smith got booked in the same game for a much worse tackle than Bartons

Not really.

Barton never meant to get the ball. He just lashed out, as usual. He's a thug, end of. No point defending him; he does not in any way deserve it. Even his club think so. And the England team have no respect for him.

He's not even that great a footballer.

Warton; take off the rose-tinted specs, mate. The bloke's an arse. High time the Bar-codes booted him out.

I'm confused, in the grand scheme of things what has Barton done wrong? Racism and Homophobia is endemic/interwoven in the game and its fans.

Sorry but I dont see a problem with a violent player when you have players who darent come out of the closet and fans who still abuse black players (albeit in foreign clubs)

I saw Smiths tackle as well, yes it was bad but I thought the tackle by Coloccini(?) down the back of Gerrards calf was also bad.
The difference between those two and Bartons was that neither ran 30yds to deliver it!

quite why big fat sam bought him is a mystery, we've been overun with average midfielders for years.

Shearer is the first manager to question why we only have one left back in the whole club!

Fat mike needs to take the financial hit himself and just let barton go, he's too much trouble At a club like newcsatle that already has enough problems...maybe get somone in training to smash one of his knees off...stop him playing elsewhere 😉

Q. What is the difference between Shearer and Newcastle United?
A. Shearer will be on Match of the Day next season.

As for Barton... he's a ****.

it was just about a straight red, but there are a lot worse that don't get such a punishment, diouf on almunia a few weeks ago springs to mind.

still, barton's a complete c**t and no mistake.

edit - that's made me have another look at diouf's attack again, unbelievable, so lucky not to have got a broken ankle from that, abysmal stuff...

I've no idea who he is either, but as it seems to be about football and a moronic footballer, we're not missing much...

Then its only a matter of time before he hits the wrong person who leaves him unconscious on the pavement.

Not worth defending IMO. Been given every chance to help himself, and seems to relish blowing it. Sooner he's sold* the better.

* the shame about Mr Barton is that there's probably a list of clubs prepared to take him on...
