A while ago, a friend and I made an agreement. Whichever one of us survived the other would ensure that we would 'see the other out' with a decent bottle of scotch when they died. Well, it looks like I am going to be the survivor and I was reminded of our agreement the other day.

For a good friend of >20 years then, any recommendations for a decent bottle I can do the honours with?

Sorry for your loss.

Budget? Tastes?

Might be nice (though expensive) to get one of an age that signifies the length of your friendship?

Budget... £50 or thereabouts.

He was into peaty flavours whereas I prefer the cleaner lowland whiskies. In view of the occasion, I'd be happy to see him out with his preferred tipple.

There never was one scotch in particular, we just kept trying as many as we could.

Lagavulin 16 is probably my fav but it's an acquired taste.

If your friend is still in a position to hear you, then you should take a trip to the best whisky merchant you can find, talk it over with an expert there, take his advice and then go to your friend with photos, clips and recount the story of the day.

If not, do all that, but omit the last bit.

Not what I expected on opening this thread... Sorry to hear that, and best wishes for all that the future brings.

However, moving on - Ardbeg. Either Ten or Corryvreckan.

Come to Scotland, go to the Aberlour distillery, bottle your own whisky, sign the label "in memory of.."

If you want to be sad - scotch.
If you want to be happy - Jack Daniels.
If you want to forget - Jagermeister.
The loss is going to hurt badly whatever you drink, I would be careful.

Tallisker Distillers Edition? That's about 50 sovs IIRC, and ticks your 'peaty' box without being Ardbegeddon.

For that kind of price, I'd be going for the Benromach Organic. But that's me, not you.

There's not enough time to go anywhere sadly, at least not if I am going to tell him about it. I'll take your suggestions along with me and see what transpires.

Thanks for the help. 🙂

Ardbeg Uigeadail, as peaty and smoky as normal Ardbeg but a lot smoother.

Sorry to hear man.

I would IMO go with one of his fave tipples. For the good times eh?

Perhaps the slightly peaty flavours of a Bowmore?
