My endura humvee shorts are uncomfortably hot and so often I go without and just wear the Lycra. Can anyone recommend me a pair of lightweight/airy baggy shorts which might address this issue and at the same time make me look like less of a tool?
Haglofs Ardent - amazing venting from hip to thigh
I love my pair - really worth the cash and if you download the haglofs app you get an extra 15% discount on intense series kit
Crotchless
I agree on the Humvees being too warm, too many pockets, too much going on.
'coolest' (in a breezy way, not sure about the colour...it is more 'dad' than cool...) shorts I own are some really light Merrell running shorts.

Having more "ventilated" shorts under will help with temperature control. Endura mesh undershorts (hate the chamois though) and Rapha merino boxers work for me in warm weather, for really hot weather there is no alternative to wearing only lycra.
Mavic notch shorts are really lightweight and cool.
The inner is really airy. As soon as summer hits again I'll virtually be living in mine.
Mesh undershorts by themselves for the very hottest days. Teamed with a sleeveless string vest style base layer.

Any idea on the name of those Merrel shorts Matt?
I think they are merrell trail shorts....but Salomon, Patagonia, Haglofs etc all do similar.
