Hi All,
Just been in touch with holiday company about our french campsite where we're staying in the summer and it looks like we're allowed to take a bbq, but unusually they don't hire them. It's got to be charcoal too, not gas.

Following on from some comments on a previous post - what does the STW Head Chefs recommend for a portable charcoal bbq?
....and where to buy?
cheers

how portable does it need to be?

We have one of these, it's great - but not light.

I got a La Hacienda Barbecue a couple of years ago. The design allows storage inside the BBQ and you can use it as a smoker as well.

sc-xc: wow that looks good..... as it's probably for a one-off hols, not sure if we can justify price, but there again it looks like the sort of kit to use again and again. I like the idea of lighting it vertically ( if i've understood that right )

Salad dodger: I was thinking along the lines of a Smokey Joe, seen them on bbq.co.uk.

Graham: I've seen them too somewhere! looks like a good price....

decisions decisions!

thanks for the ideas, I didn't know things like Cobb's and Hibachi's existed.
thanks

Had a Weber smokey joe (the rectangular thing?) for 'bout 15 years. Great piece of kit but that son of Hibachi is sooo clever...

A lot of casting in it too so will be pretty robust

We use ours at home as much as away - you throw some coal in, light a match, have a beer then it's ready.

(and I am rubbish at lighting barbies normally)
