Can't imagine any touch screen phone / big screen phone being great for biking..

N8 looks good to me for non-sport activities, OS looks very powerful, ok it doesnt have eye candy, but so what? Camera is best of any phone

Its data/networking capabilities are significantly better too than other phones, see link for comparison to Galaxy

N8 + a cheap tough phone/phone you dont care about for biking perhaps?

Hora > On the last two phones I've had there's a proximity sensor which disables the keypad if it's near your face. Does the N8 not have that at all, or did you use a broken one? Seems a massive design flaw if so.

"we looked at Desire and Galaxy S"

The Galaxy S has issues and Samsung's support is basically "we don't give a sh!t". I was in the same boat not so long ago, and initally thought that the Galaxy S was the one for me till I started trawling through forums. I now have a Desire and I recommend it highly, it's the wasp's nipples.

I'm hoping to get upgrade my phone in the next week or so. Top of the list is the HTC Desire, althought the Legend could be tempting instead (cheaper = better for finding in your pocket halfway round a ride).

Looked into the Desire HD, but its something like 16% bigger and 25% heavier than the normal desire so cant be bothered with that

I gor my new HTC Desire HD and its the doggies do do's, it does everything and more I could ask from a smartphone, very easy to setup and comes preloaded with loads of apps, it also sync's easily with my previous phone to transfer all my contacts, calender etc and the screen is nice and large very clear along with the HD Video and 8 megapixel camera I can get some nice footage of family and rides. Don't know what all the fuss is about that these iphone zomie's harp on about ๐Ÿ˜‰

"sensor settings"

Only one option 'turning control' - already ON.

I got a Desire HD last weekend, my first 'smart' phone and am really impressed by it.

Some folks have a complaint about short battery life but if you stick the settings widget on a home screen then it's easy to turn the Network, GPS & WiFi on and off, with it off most of the time battery life is fine...

It may not be the smallest phone there is but it's not that much bigger than the E 71 I had before it,

I suspect the new blackberry is going to be right on the money. typing on a touchscreen is a pita whereas the new blackberry has both. also the batteries last a good few days. the only problem with the other bb's is the smaller screen, however like me you may find after getting the smart phone you should've stuck with a regular phone and got an iPad (or similar)

I'd never own another samsung cack phone cack customer service. Samsung seem happy to release second rate phones and allow the public to beta test them then ignore the negative feedback.

Ha! Anyone who thinks modern smartphones are bulky has obviously never handled one of these:

still got mine kicking around somewhere. Worth about a tenner secondhand.

That would be the Mini-S, no? I have mine right here, dug it out the other day as a temporary replacement.
