yes i know the answer is a DE wet shave, but for those days when youve only got a few minutes to dash out the door.....
my remingtons around 10 years old now and has a rip in the foil, so time to look for a new one.

whats the leccy razor of choice these days? any bargains to be had? i think id prefer a foil to those 3 rotary head jobbies, never understood how they could get close enough under your nose. in fact the smaller the better for manoeuvrability.

thanks

My barber (man that sounds posh) recommended a foil head shaver for the most economical close shave, which means for the last year I've been using two different electric shavers.

One, on his recommendation, was a £20 AA-battery-powered foil shaver from Argos: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8881355 - this is really superb for a good close shave, but only if you use it every day, maybe even twice a day.

The other is great, but works best on two-day growth because it pulls and cuts, but can be used in the shower (or at least on wet skin) if needed: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5024407

...so that's what I tend to resort to if I can't wet shave, which is actually most days at the moment.

I've had both foil shavers and the Philips 3 rotating head style ones and the foil shavers are easily the best. Looking to get one myself also so will be splashing out on a Braun. Used to have a Braun many years ago, they lasted for ages and worked really well.

Shavers.co.uk suggest that the rotary ones are better if you are bone idle and leave it a day or so and the foils are better if you like the bum fresh look.

I have a foil at the moment and it’s meh, given the advice above I might switch.

Which magazine recommended a Panasonic for the best foil...

thanks.

can anyone confirm that the 3 rotary jobbies can actually get to those fiddly areas such as under the nose etc?

I've got one of those Brauns from Argos as my travel/work shaver. It was £10 when I bought it some 20 years ago. It's great - comfortable, close shave, easy to clean (but not as quick as a Gillette Fusion wet shave).

I really like my Phillips OneBlade Pro. Close shave, light, battery seems to last forever.

I'm a clumsy oaf and wreck foils all the time so switched to rotary style a few years ago, I prefer them these days.

I like this one. Reminds me of what my Grandad used to use, but it's actually a decent shave, has a trimmer, waterproof and has a USB socket for charging anywhere. Rotary ones give me a rash.

£30 cheaper at Argos too.

i've got the panasonic mentioned in the which magazine review and very happy with it. model is the RF31.

previously had a couple of brauns, similar to the series 5, which both lasted a long time with daily use. this panasonic is better though replacement parts are more expensive

there's little point buying the shavers with cleaning stations. especially now most can be washed under a tap

From my knowledge etc (Phillips and Braun propaganda called training 😂)

if you have been using a foil and liked it then get another foil razor, if you have been using a rotary and liked it then get another rotary, as they cut differently, if you have been wet shaving or didn’t like what you had it won’t matter what you get. If you are new to electric razors it can take a few weeks to get a good shave, so persist, and don’t give up. You are best to either electric shave or wet shave and not mix as they cut differently so to get best results stick with one.

Best foil razor I ever had was Panasonic wet and dry (left it in a hotel) while my dad swears by Philips rotary. Horses for courses. I now wet shave again as electric was no quicker for a good result, I was using a shaving gel anyway with the wet/dry and result was never quite as good as a wet shave on the neck area.

Avoid battery ones (fine for a quick top up) if you want a good shave every day, as soon as the batteries start to lose power they pull the hair more rather than cut so you need good batteries, go rechargeable so you are not tied to a socket like with a mains powered one. If you are happy with what you have maybe just replace the foil/cutter but this can be expensive so new can make more sense.

Not sure how Pierre’s recommendation for really close means shaving twice aday, can’t be that close then.

I’m a Phillips three headed guy. Having read this I’d like to try a foil though.

But my contribution is; best thing about my Phillips job is the built in li-ion rechargeable battery. It lasts months on a single charge, being li-ion it has full power until the day it stops (which is about a week after the warning light), it charges in an hour, and so far it’s lasted, ooh about 8 years and several cutter changes. Cost bout £70 quid for the Privelige though and that was years ago.
Ps only buy genuine replacement cutters!

So, it’s arrived.

Just had the inaugural shave after not shaving since Friday.

It’s very quiet compared to my Braun series 3, produced a smooth result. Comfortable too, didn’t have to do the mouth contortions to get the skin flat.
Had a couple of pulled hair moments as I was moving across but I guess that’s the nature of the beast. It was certainly a rare occurrence with the Braun. Feels a bit tingly now, but it a a different way of shaving so expected.

A promising start.
