MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
I've got my Digital SLR and its plethora of lens and I love that for my photogrpahic work... but I'm loath to take it riding with me and especially when I'm away on holiday riding in the mountains this summer.
So which compact digital camera do you recommend?
I was thinking about the requirements for such a camera:

Small - no point having an SLR size brick[/*]

Robust - kinda obvious - does this preclude cameras with extending lenses?[/*]

Waterproof? Or does this make the choice limited - I think as long as it fits in one of those waterproof pelicase like enclosures any camera should be fine - this might be the answer to moving lenses as well?[/*]

Big buttons and easy to use - I ant to be ablet o grab that quick shot without having to take my gloves off.[/*]

Fast shutter or 'sports mode' for ride shots[/*]

wide angle (optional) for that "look the view from the top was worth the climb" shots[/*]

fully manual mode for more arty shots[/*]

Good battery life and runs on normal AA batteries so I can get spares anywhere[/*]

shoots video (optional) for documenting the moments my mates decide to try to kill themselves in interesting (and vertical) ways![/*]

Preferably takes SD cards as thats what I have lots of for my SLR[/*]

Price? - cheaper end so if I smash it or loose it I'll not be as narked off[/*]
Any other key things you look for in a biking camera?
Many Thanks

12. 8mp or above so the best images can be enlarged?

There's soo many decent compact camera's out there now! I think most compact camera's do everything you're asking (except waterproof, and AA batts), I think its down to personal preference really.
I bought a Canon Powershot G10 for biking and everything else, but thats cos I dont have dSLR, so it's sorta the best of both worlds for me. It's certainly bigger than you're normal compact, but also a lot smaller than a dSLR, with a lot of the features of a dSLR.
What kind of SLR do you have?
Nikon: then the Nikon P6000 looks nice.
Canon: then the Canon G10 looks good.
Think you'll struggle with the aa battery option, look at battery life instead. My current compact will take 500 shots between charges.

More megapixels = more noise. Also most decent cams have li-ion batteries now and while I was concerned about this they last ****in ages.
Incidentally, I take my DSLR snowboarding with me and plenty of others on here take it biking. Just get it insured and forget about it 🙂
