Mornin' all.

Up until now I have been using Fasthosts/Streamline (one and the same I now understand) to supply value Linux hosting. Now that I am starting to do more Wordpress Blogs/Joomla sites I'm finding that the MySQL database access speeds are very poor.

Does anyone have any recommendations for decent value, fast linux hosts?

Shared server hosting is fine, ideally they should have access to a good control panel where I can manage the functions of the domain, set up databases, pop email, etc.

I am setting up a Joomla site as a favour for a student friend so I don't want her to be paying over-the-top hosting prices.

Suggestions much appreciated.

cheers, flip

Thanks Nezbo, I'll check them out.

Anyone used Heart Internet or One.Com?

My brief exploration of One.Com gave me the impression that the control panel is a bit limited.

I used Purple Paw and had excellent service.

My demands weren't as high as I suspect yours will be though.

Thanks BJ (uh, maybe should use BigJohn)

It looks like you can have your cake and eat it. I've taken a punt with these folks:

They are PHP/Linux/MySQL friendly and come with excellent feedback here:

I've used Donhost for the last four years, and they've been spot on. Not sure how they compare pricewise to other offerings.

I've got stuff hosted on one.com and dreamhost. Like you say, the control panel with one.com is rather limited in comparison to others. My dreamhost space was dirt cheap but only for a year, I'll probably end up moving once the year is up.
