The chap that has done our windows gets then from Rockdoor but they look pricey (£1700).
Anyone had one recently from anywhere that they would recommend?
Rockdoor.
Sorry 😉
We have two Rockdoors, we bought them after having a good look at our neighbours Rockdoor. 8 years in, still very happy. They were £1300 and £1100 back then.
We went to a local supplier and had choice of Virtuos or Solidor. We couldn't justify the extra for Solidor, and took better thermal performance over better security.
A neighbor is UPVC fitter for a national company fitted it for us.
It's been in two years now and is just fine.
Not cheap, but the extra heat it saves and lack of needing to slam a swollen wooden door is ace.
Rockdoor - hmmm. We had them fitted at our previous house and they were great. Moved house, went for Rockdoor again and the stable style one we had installed has been a nightmare. In warm weather it expands and is very difficult to open so we have to use the rear patio door instead, which is not ideal. Had the fitters out 5 times now, and they say it's a manufacturing fault and the tolerances are too tight.
Rockdoor keep bouncing it back to the fitters and have ignored our emails as we wish to claim under their 10 year warranty. Fitters say that Rockdoors customer service have really gone downhill. 18 months later and we're now at the small claims court stage. Shame because the door itself is really solid and looks great.
We have a front door from these - mates rates and fitting but the quality seems really good http://www.door-stop-doors.co.uk/
Solidor are rubbish imo. Our warranty replacement has now warped like the first and is being changed next week. The door company we purchased it off won't replace it with a solidor so are going for an endurance door instead.
I got a Solidor a couple of years ago (cost about £1700 I think), I had problem initially (stiff lock and gap appearing between frame and interior wall) but the company that fitted it sent someone out to sort it the next day (the second guy apologising for the dodgy work of the first guy). It's been fine since.
At the time Solidor seemed to have a good rep and had a style (Naples) that I liked where I could also have the letterbox half way up the door (I'd read postie's backs aren't a fan of bottom of the door letterboxes)
After recommendation from here:

I'm about to put the trigger myself and buy from them next month. My local builder will fit them for me. IMHO much better option than composite doors.
I just fitted myself one of these:

You need to add the frame, locking mechanism and hinges.
Mines just on a porch so I just fitted a push pull latch.
The frame is hardwood and you have to hang it yourself and chop the door down for whatever draught excluder you buy.
Door itself very nice quality, very heavy! Way better than the old wood door that would expand and contract.
However joinery is not my first skill so next time I would pay the extra for a prehung door with locks and hinges pre set, and probably a matching composite frame would be better. I just couldn't find a supplier of door only.
Rock door for the win.
Rock door for the win.
This is our Rockdoor...

Still waiting six weeks on for a confirmation of when they will get it replaced under warranty. It's not great as it's the front door so I am concerned about security right now.
I shouldn't worry about the integrity of your door unless you are expecting a baytering ram attack, I imagine most houses have more vulnerable break-in points round the sides/back, first floor window....
unless you are expecting a baytering ram attack
I don't know about that - it's managed to crack all the way to the core by itself so I am not entirely sure it will need that much force to finish it off. And the crack has grown since I took that picture 6 weeks ago too.
Yeah theres a piece of glass there that a sharp tap in the corner with a pointy hammer would see off.
Don't worry about the crack being a security risk.....

I assume it would be laminated / toughened sandwich in a front door - toughened is really easy to shatter.

Whilst this is possibly true, as I said previously, the crack is bigger now (I took those pics for the warranty claim) and soon it will reach the edge of the door.
